it seems like a lot of people, me included, are looking to buy the 1530. I was just wondering, is it worth waiting a little while before buying?

is there any new models coming out to lower the price of the 1530?

will they be fixing the screen issues soon?

Wait a while and it wil get cheaper...but electronics will all get cheaper over time. So it depends on if you really need it.

The new models are coming out for the vostros...not the xps. If you want a lower price you wait for another big discount.

There is no screen issues...some people are just too sensitive about screen brightness(only odd ones that REALLY have issues, which can happen to any laptop you buy). Who knows you might just get an lg that you wont complain about.

I'm sorry, but that's just not true. I advise the OP to take a look at the "How do I fix my m1530 G rainy Screen?" thread (link), there are comparison photos there - it is easy to see, even in the photos, that the majority of the high resolution panels Dell is shipping look pretty bad. A few people have received good ones, though, and a lot of others have asked for replacements until they received a good one.

EDIT: btw, the 'bad' panels are manufactured by Samsung, 'good' ones by LG.

There is a freaking 40% off deal going on right now. I say buy it now. YOu can max out the laptop for about $1300.

If you want the laptop now, buy it.. But don't buy before you have to.

XPS M1530 is a great 15.4" notebook, i think the reviews prove that. Yes there are issues with grainy screens and on the forums it might look huge, but bear this in mind, this is a Notebook Forum which provides technical advise, people come here when it happens to then, it is rare for it to of happened to a long term member, for clear statistical reasons.

As for the hardware inside it, also a great time to buy for the reason that Penryn has been shipping with Dell for a few weeks now and there obviously isnt another chip for several months yet. That was the main swaying point for me, as well as it being an amazing machine for entertainment and a good enthusiast gaming notebook too. Plus since there are discount offers on that makes it an even better time to order!

Yup, there are some great deals right now on the m1530 so if you are in the market, I would buy NOW. And fret later :)

That's just the thing - there is a large number of people who have been members BEFORE getting a grainy m1530, and the fact that people who tried to return/replace them usually got another grainy screen shows that the problem is with the majority, not the minority.

If you want to play the wait game, you can wait for eternity. Every day there is a possibility something might be changed, go cheaper or improved.

If you keep thinking with that mentality, then you should never buy anything

It totally depends on what you need and when you need it. As previous posters said, computer equipment is constantly improving, either saving you money or giving you additional capability for the same cost - Moore's law at work, along with constant improvements in storage, power savings, etc. The longer you can wait, the more you'll get for your money or the less you'll spend.

Also, Dell has almost always got a significant sale going on with the Dell "best" configuration of the 1530. I shopped and researched for around 4 months before pulling the trigger and have kept an eye on the market since then (another 2 months) and in that entire time, there was only a TOTAL of about 11 days that the "best" model wasn't on a discount of $500 or greater. The trick is getting the items you want into that configuration, since this is where the Dell marketing guys are constantly tinkering with the supply chain - sometimes it's the WSXGA+ screen, sometimes the graphics chip, sometimes the processor or memory, but there are always parts being shuffled around from the baseline configurations.

While you see a lot of chatter about Penryn and the monitor quality on the boards, all the discussion about major changes to the system architecture or to their suppliers are rumors or forecasts - so if you really need or want a machine, it's not wise to wait on that basis. Wait for the sale that gets you closest to your ideal machine.

    thanks for the replies...

it's a shame about the screen, if they all shipped with LG screens this would be an amazing laptop.

as for all the discounts, it seems that it only applies to the US... can't find anything here for the UK.

it doesn't seem like they're wanting to fix the screens anytime soon, so... if the prices falls to a nice number i'll go buy it.

I would HIGHLY suggest buying it when you need it (as long as the price is fair).

    Hi ~
If you really want the 1530...Why not get it now??? ;) :D

Dell always has deal's going on...They expire one day, and start back up on another. Technology is "ever-changing", and there is always going to be something newer and better coming out ;) :)

The thing is, if you wait for something you obviously want ~ the longer it is going to take get it into your physical hands. :D

I played the "procrastination game" in getting my lappy. Always thinking there was going to be a better deal, or something newer coming out.

When I finally ordered my 1530 ~ I was ever-so-happy to get into my hands, and very relieved from questioning myself every time I was about to order ;)

And, I am extremely satisified with my 1530 BTW ;) :))

it's just that the screens are such a let down...

looking at all the photos people have taken, i really don't want to draw the short straw and end up with a bad screen.

    i don't know, i think I'm just hoping for a miracle.
