So I just pulled it out of the box and both the power and media direct buttons do nothing, they click but nothing happens.
The battery has 3 out of 5 lights lit when checked..

I've removed the battery and put it back, but still nothing.. any ideas ?

I'm currently on hold to XPS tech support 17 minutes and counting...

Try plugging in the notebook. Also, try pressing harder on the power button and holding for about 1 second.

I've also noticed that the power button sometimes needs a firm press.

Nope, its dead, no amount of pressing or pressure makes it turn on, both the power button and the media direct button do nothing.

Spent 28 minutes on hold to XPS Support who raised a case reference for it to be swapped. Hardly the service I'd expect from the premium brand support line.

I've also emailed customer support asking when the replacement is going to get here and why this machine wasn't tested, quite obviously it hadn't been prior to leaving dell. So here goes another 3 week wait.

    That's really bad CraftyUk.

Customer service is really bad for us here in the UK (assuming you are from the UK). I don't know if they use the same call centre for North American customers, but really it is appalling. It's a good thing my accounts manager is nice compared to the others in the 'support' team who've hung up on me at least 3 times now.

hi Oscar, yeah Im in the UK. The guy I spoke to was Irish so I assume he was based over there. To be honest there was little he could do other than raise a case for a replacement, I also emailed customer service quoting the case number - I've yet to hear from them.
In the email I asked when I can expect a replacement and why the machine had not been tested as Dell claims they do, it obviously wasn't tested.

DTTM: Having only one battery I can't change it but I did remove it and reseat it a couple of times to no avail, the little power indicator on it shows 3 out of 5 lights, so I can only assume its ok, even then the AC adapter was plugged in so even if the battery held no change it should of turned on.
