    Hi all,
I think I'm either doing something wrong on my 1530 ~ or, my DVD/CD writer/burner isn't working properly...So, I'm asking for some assistance!!

(With my desktop I didn't have a DVD burner, just a CD burner)....I have been trying to burn some music onto CD's thru both Window's Media Player and Media Center - Upon the usual burn process, it show's that the "burn" is complete, so the CD is removed, etc,! I thought I had downloaded all the current drivers, also.

However, once I remove the CD, and place it either in my car CD player, or in another media type player it will not read the CD or play it. And, when I place the CD back into the lappy, it just bring it up as a choice of "of recording a blank CD". As if the CD was never recorded at all!!

When, I look at my DVD drive this is what it reads: Unspecified DVD RW Drive (E), and under Hardware - I have 2 drive choices: STE9160823ASG (Disk Drive), and TEAC DVD+RW DVW28SLC DVD/CD-R Device. I thought I had specified the latter.

On this drive there is 0 used, 0 free Bytes. Please note that it will play CD/DVD's and rip CD's just fine.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong here, and what I should be doing to correct my mistake???? I am using Memorex CD-Rs to burn, by the way.

    Thanks ;) :D

Try using the built-in Vista software (as opposed to WMP and Media Center) to burn a CD and see if that makes a difference. Also, are you properly closing out the session so that the CD can be read by other drives? I've got the same TEAC drive and it works fine using the Vista software. I haven't tried other software. I removed Roxio as soon as I got the machine.

Ok, downloading the latest drive didn't work (same as b4).
But, when I loaded in my latest CD that I burned, I chose the other option of burning the CD to either: Burning Audio CD using Windows Media Player or Burning Files to Disk Using Windows, I chose Burning Files to Disk Using Windows, and it formatted it. This time it read it, and I was able to play it on the lappy, and also on a external CD player.

So, I guess I could do it this way, a 2 step process. Burn the CD, remove it, place it back in and format it to disk. So that all device(s) I use will read it. A longer, time-consuming process ~ but it works, I guess.....

@Smoothieboy, Built-in Vista software? Which are you referring to? I only have WMP, Media Center, and Media Direct (which I haven't opened on the system). And, this is going to be a total "I sound like a dork question"...but, that's why we ask questions!!! :) What do you mean by closing out the session?? When, I close out the session, I assume that to be, that when the system tell's me that my burn session is complete, and I can safely eject the CD ~ I am all set!!! ;)

Other than this small struggle (which is really a user error)!!!, I simply love my lappy!!! Many Thanks!

I also, removed the Roxio at clean install and never used it!!!

If you insert a blank CD, unless you've set a different default action, a window should open to allow you to drag files to be burned into the window. This doesn't use WMP, etc. There is an option that will automatically close out a session when you eject the disk. I don't know if this option is checked on your system. If you right click on your CD drive and open properties, go to the recording tab and open global settings, you should see it there. You can also try reinserting one of the disks you've burned, right click on your CD drive and choose "close session" if that option is available. This may make the CD more compatible with other CD drives.

With my M1530, I've got it set as a default to close a session when ejecting. However, when I press the eject "button" above the keyboard, the disk won't eject until I right click the drive and choose close session. I don't know why this happens.

@Smoothieboy! It worked ~ Thanks! I also stopped some of the AutoPlay default actions so WMP wouldn't automatically open, unless I tasked the action! ;) Huge :))))

Excellent! But what were you doing fooling around with your CD drive instead of watching the Super Bowl? :D
