Is Dell shipping out XPS 1440X900 Samsung panels lately? I have been reading the threads and it seems like there are more Samsung 1440X900 than LG lately.

Yep I saw 4-5 people(excluding myself) posted here about their 1440x900 Samsung that they just got last week and this week. I would suggest you wait before you order this is not a good time. I'm pissed about the situation... waited two weeks and now I'm getting a bad screen :(

Same here.. after two screen replacements I chose to send my M1530 back and order another. After waiting 2-3 weeks for dell to credit my finance account, I go to place a new order. I checked my service tag online and they are sending me a samsuck screen. However, I will refuse it at the door and try again.

It's a real shame because aside from the screen, I really like the M1530.

i just checked mine, i ordered mine 3/21 got it not too long after that and mine is an LG (1440x900) guess i lucked out. i have had zero problems with my order. No keyboard bulge, no loose webcam, fingerprint reader works like a charm every time, touch pad keys for eject and volume control work great, no noises coming from the internals, etc. I guess the way I ordered my configuration was just a good compilation. Sorry for those who are having problems, hope they get resolved as quickly as possible.

XPS M1730 samsungs aren't too bad. A little light leakage at the bottom but the color quaility and contrast more then make up for it.

Coincidentally, the LG lcd for this laptop is still better then the samsung...

I have not read about the other Dell models but I take it this is a problem with all the different models?

I was researching monitors not too long ago and remember reading about Dell switching out IPS panels for cheaper PVA panels on their 20" flat panel montior. Kind of an odd thing to do to customers. This whole laptop screen issue reminds me of that.

Funny things is after all I read about quality issues I still purchased a 30" monitor from Dell because it was a great deal at the time.

Great company but too bad they have issues with such an important part of the computer.

Ordered on 3/29 and recieved on 4/4 with a crappy wxga+ samsung screen. It really is a lottery. I would hold out if I were you because the screen is pretty bad and the hastle of trying to get a replacement makes the situation worse. I have a technician coming by this week to replace the panel and I don't even know if it will be an LG. If it turns out that another Samsung is being sent then I am returning the computer. I would've been fine with the screen but I actually compared it to my friends m1530 and his screen is SO MUCH better.

Go HERE to find out which screen you have.

Apparently I got lucky because I got an LG 1400X900 screen.

I just recieved an LG screen but I'm exchanging my system due to another issue. I'm hoping I get another LG screen. If not I'll ask a tech to come over and swap out my current screen to the new laptop.

I placed my order and specified the LG screen. Then called back because I'm paranoid like that and forced a second customer rep to attach a note to my order that I wanted the LG screen. I told them if it came Samsung, it'd go straight back and that would cost Dell more money than to just give me what I'm already paying for anyway. The guy seemed to understand, we'll see when it arrives ...

It's happening on others too - I ordered a 1720 on 3/19, arrived on 3/28 and sent back on 4/1. It was horrible - dim, shadows and you could only look at it dead on. I would really like to consider a Dell for the price and service, but it looks like I am going to have to stick to Sony due to this display inconsistency. I did not really realize how good the Sony display was (3yr old VGN-FS) until I had it sitting beside the 1720 transferring data.

I also just got a Samsung on the 1440x900 yesterday. Also had keyboard bluge and dent by the back button in the nameplate bezel.

Have already started by e-mail, will see what happens from here. I like this computer other than that and the fingerprint scanner, web cam, etc. all work GREAT. It would be a shame for me to have to get another computer.

Bad display, bulge in the kb, dents, fingerprint scanner and web cam (don't work or you don't like?) - but other than that it is a great computer?? No offense, but I personally think it would be a shame if you *kept* that computer.

I recieved my XPS 1530 on 2nd April,2008 from Dell India.

The hardware id says MONITOR/LPLDF00 .I suppose that is LG ?

I was supposed to get Samsung XR860 I think but after reading not so good reviews about Samsung screens I changed my order at the very last moment and opted for a 1440x900 instead of the earlier Samsung 1680x1050 .

For the bulge, dent and screen you would return the whole computer? The bulge I heard and I figured both that, the dent and screen could all be fixed simultaneously if I can get them to send me the screen. Otherwise I'd return it and get a totally new one. Thoughts???

The reasoning his you paid for a new laptop and got one that looks like it got beat up a little. I'm quite picky with things like that, if they did a poor QA job on the unit then what else was done improperly that you don't see...

Good idea. I'll see if at first they'll send someone right out. If not, I will return it.

Do I have to pay for shipping back to them or the new shipping back to me?

If you're within your return period there's no shipping cost. You can even keep your current system while the other one is being built, that's what I did.

Well as I was saying I have the LG but had to get a new one due to an unrelated issue. Well they sent me the Samsung despite assurances that I get another LG. I'm goign to call up and tell them to swap out my 1st screen to the 2nd.

BTW the samsung screen looks decent. However, the viewing angle is undeniably worse. Much worse. Also I don't think it's as sharp either.

According to Dell Asia they don't have any LG screens to use. I ordered a replacement display and it came back with identical grain/backlight bleed.

I got a refund and won't be bothering trying my luck again. I'm almost decided on the Asus M50/M51 series.

I have the LG - LPLDF00 panel 1440-900 and a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M card. In my opinion, even this screen has a little grain to it (not too much though). I can’t even imagine what the Samsung looks like. This is especially evident when I change my desktop background with one of my own pics.

What are the optimal settings which would improve the picture?

(Sorry - if this was addressed in another thread...)

Overall - I like this laptop
