I had a Dell 1530 1280x800 and Sony FZ 1280x800 sitting side by side and the Sony was way brighter and much better colors.

I can get so much more for the money with dell but I loved the Sony LCD. Can anyone give me a comparison of the Dell 1050x1680 screeen verses the the Sony Xrbrite HiColor?

Thats the only thing holding me back from the Dell 1530. I don't want to go to a 17" Sony to get better resolution if I don't have to.

    Thanks

Not exactly what you asked for, but it's all I have. Back when Dell first came out with the TrueLie glossy screens, I bought one and I had a Sony 17" laptop at that time, too. They both were 1920x1200 (WUXGA). The Sony was brighter, and much clearer (0 sparkly/grainy), however the colors seemed better on the Dell.

Sony screens are known for their quality. On the other hand, Dell is known for having inconsistent [in terms of quality -- remember the 1520/1500?] screens.
