Hey all. I was just wondering how many processes are running in the background (preferably a new 1530)? Is there alot of bloatware processes and would it be worth reformating? I have already installed all my stuff on this computer

    thanks

how many processes do you have? you will have around 20 right after installing windows... i have 33 running with programs installed. anything below 40 isn't horrible. if you are over 50, 60, or god forbid, 70 process, i would consider a reinstall, especially if most of those processes are presumably dell junk.

that being said, if the computer is working fast enough for you, you could just leave it alone. reinstalling everything is a big project!

It's a different story on Vista, it's quite normal to have 50, 60 processes running in the background once you start installing drivers and programs.

eek! i wonder if service pack one will save vista, or if it will still fall short of XP in performance... wowo. that's a lot of processes!

maybe some 1530 people could post their process count (and OS) at idle here, i'm sure it would help out the OP.

On my 1520 I had 33 processes (inc. AV and firewall) running on vista home premium after a full OS re-install. I also used the vista tweaking thread sticky in the windows os forum on this website, it got me down from about 43 processes right after a fresh install to 33.

Oh when I first got it with all the bloatware there were 75+ processes running.

As stated, it depends how many processes you have running now and if you're happy with the performance of your computer. That said, if you're competent with a computer, I recommend doing a clean Vista install. You can find a guide for doing it here.

Also, if you haven't yet, look at the Top Vista Tweaks thread for ways to make your computer run faster.

Well, either way your post is completely OT. Let's try to keep the discussion back on topic.

I have between 70 and 90 depending on how many programs i have open. It really depends on your setup and what software you run.
