    Hello ,
.. because I can not find any active voucher coupon for Inspiron 1525 and Centrino 2 is not still available for Dell notebooks , I has been looking around for other notebook .

Why I wanted Inspiron : I wanted Inspiron because I can configure what I need and I LOVE silver colour .
    Now I found Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E .

But : FW has P8400, 2,26 GHz Duo-Prozessor which (I saw review) is slower than what I wanted to have in Inspiron (T8300) , than it has 5400 HD instead of 7200 which I can have with Inspiron . ... and last thing : Inspiron costs £630 and FW costs £750.80 ... so for less performance I would pay £120.8 more .

I know - FW has 16.4" display and larger HD than I can have with 7200 HD on Inspiron and it will have better graphic and FW looks nicer than 1525 .
But less performance for bigger price is what disturb me , because I need use notebook for very CPU hungry music app like Ableton or Arturia stuff .

So my question is simply : which would you chose and why ? ... or do you see anything important what I dont ?

    thanks you a lot

A larger 5400rpm drive can beat out a 7200 rpm drive due to the density of the platter.

I believe the Vaio does have a better screen aswell and the 16.4 is the new standard of screen aspect which will become mainstream later this year (around fall?)

    :)

    get the vaio.

trust me. get the Vaio if you got the money. especially if you get the HiColor screen for the FW...i heard reviewers say its one of the best ever.

If you care anything about music or sound quality...the 1525 sucks. interference like mad. Dell has just gone down the drain recently... it's over. all they got going for them is an overpriced XPS line and large customer base (students, companies, ect...).

    ???
The FW has a Montevina processor. I would have thought that would be more desirable than the Penryn processor in the Inspiron.

I'd get the FW -- not just because it has a Montevina processor but because you can get it with a great screen. With Dell, it's hit or miss whether you get a good screen or not -- and out of 6 Dell laptops with 9 different screens, Dell has yet to send me a really good screen. I'm so sick of looking at screens that are merely acceptable (or less).

The only thing that favors the Dell over the Sony FW is that you'll probably have to clean up a lot of bloatware on the Sony to get it running as fast as it could. Dell doesn't cripple their computers with as much bloatware.

    Oh noes..bloatware!

hm.. you can get rid of bloatware but you can't do much about a crappy screen other than hassle to return and return again and again.

    FW. HiColor Screen

go to a sony store and look for yourself. you decide

Get the Sony. A larger 5400 rpm drive is plenty fast. A got a 120Gb that runs 55Mb/Sec. That's pretty darn good for a 5400rpm. The Sony has more style, an awesome screen too. A little extra money for quality always wins over a low price in the long run. As far as I am concerned.
