got a inspiron 1525(may08) and yesterday i got the message at bootup that it didnt recognize the dell power adapter. Also shows that 'unknown power adapter' in the bios. The laptop still gets power cause the battery power still stays at the same percentage all the time. when i unplug the power adapter, the screen goes dim as it should and will brighten up when i plug in the power adapter. the battery icon says 'plugged in, not charging'.

The nest time it happens, try pressing "F1" to continue the boot up..
This is a very common problem with the M1330/M1530 of late. You might want to check up on that thread in the Dell XPS Forums for the user opinions, suggestions and tips, if any. -

i did call dell and they told me to take it to bestbuy cause they warranty runs thru them. the guy at bestbuy wanted to ship it off the dell. i said dont you have any extra power adapters to try, he found one and it started charging. but he still couldnt do anything about it. so im gonna contact dell to see if they will ship one. its stupid to ship the laptop off for 3 weeks if all i need is a power adapter.

Hi
Have a look at the connector plug of your charger. If you use a genuine Dell charger you should see a small pin in the centre. This is used by the machine to communicate with the charger. If this pin is missing e.g. broken off, bent etc for any reason then you will get the behaviour described. It will still power the laptop but the machine will say that it's not an original adapter nor will you get feedback about battery charging etc.
Hope this helps,

$30 (£20) on eBay incl. Next Day Delivery. Go with a trusted seller (Chinese FAKES) and make sure you get the right adapter. On the adapter it should say the model e.g. 'PA-12' Family and PA-1650-06D3. Make sure that the number of your adapter matches the one you order.

listen to this. since like i said that the warranty runs thru best buy, i took it there and the gek squad kid wanted to ship it off to dell. no i dont want to be without my computer for 4weeks. its like dont you have an extra power adapter around here to try it? he said they dont work on dells and dont have any parts for them, we just ship them to dell. he did find an adapter and it started charging so i and he both confirmed that it was the adapter. he said i needed to contact dell for a replacement. so my point is why have warranty run thru dell if they cant do anything but ship it off? pointless.... i talked to dell and they are shipping me a power adapter. i also talked to them about getting the dell extended warranty before mine runs out and dell said i couldnt do that. which i dont understand.
