    hey,
i'm a first year college student looking out for a new laptop. After a lot of queries, i finally zeroed in on dell. Now i am confused between the inspiron 1520 and the 1525. I am only going to use the laptop for movies, music, matlab etc. So i'm wondering whether to go for the x3100 in 1525 or the nVidia 8400m in 1520. So could anyone please suggest whether to go for the x3100 or 8400m. Secondly, i was planning to go in for 4 gb ram, in order to keep my laptop reasonably futureproof. Is it worth it? Thanks in advance.

go with 1525 :) you're not a gamer so the x3100 will suffice and the 1525 is sexier. upgrade to 4gb ram :)

1525 weighs much less and also it size is lesser so it may be easier to carry around than the 1520.. Go with the 1525 :)

1525 is better than the 1520... a lot more lighter

but if you insist on getting dedicated graphics, you should consider an xps for 100-200$ more

The x3100 can handle a lot, just not games. When I had one, I ran dual monitors and had video on one and internet browsing on the other. Worked fine.

I also lost about 20% battery life when going from the x3100 to the 8600gt

Just make sure to get a fast processor or you might have a hard time playing hd flash videos.
