Sorry if this is old but i just wanted to point out that Dell is no longer offering any dedicated graphics with the 1520, instead it links you to the 1530 if you want dedicated graphics
-
No point for them anymore, but there is still the vostro, dang if they just offered the 1525 in dedicated 8600Gt i would jump on one so fast. Oh well there is allways gateway those are looking real good lately.
-
gooooooooooo VOSTRO!
-
And what's that gateway lappy you're talking about. -
-
that sounds like a cheap move by DELL.. then again it's DEL so meh..
I think with thier strategy to get to number 1 again, this'll hurt them... -
Yeah. Go with Vostro 1500 instead.
-
I'd also go with the Vostro.. its identical to the 1520.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Whether it's a dumb move or not, Dell is trying to "stratify" their product lines. The Inspirons are supposed aimed at the John Doe consumer who'll never use his laptop for anything other than email and word processing. The XPS line is supposed to be aimed at people who are willing to pay a premium for dedicated graphics. With the decreased options, Dell saves money and the knowledgeable consumer loses, but John Doe won't end up over-spec'ing his browsing machine.
Dell assumes that businesses know what their buying and will buy in larger quantities so it can afford to keep those options open; hell, "consumers" aren't even "supposed" to purchase computers from SMB and the business lines, but given this stratification no one really gives a damn.
EDIT: Also, this is total speculation, but I'd venture to say that the 1520 is reaching EoL with the release of the 1525 and all 1520s with dedicated graphics might have finally run out. Since the 1525 is selling through brick and mortars, they want it to have but a single configuration so John Doe doesn't get confused.
Just my two cents. Not that I'd ever buy an Inspiron anyways ;P
