What exactly is going on at Dell?
I got my 1520 at the end of July, and just looking at the current options, it seems as though Dell removed a lot of the "good" choices. What I noticed:
-No more T7300, T7100, but a T7250 instead. Is the 7250 cheaper for Dell than the 7300 (both are 2GHz) or is it just a newer refresh?
-No more anti-glare screen. I got this, and it's great. I couldn't stand the glossy.
-WiFi is either built-in Dell 1390 or Intel 3945ABG. No more 4965BGN or the Dell N-Draft.
-Vista Ultimate is the basic OS option now.
I priced something roughly equivalent to what I got in July, and the price is quoted nearly $200 more without coupons, about $600 more with coupons.
What happened at Dell and why? I would expect new technology to go down in price over time, not up, and especially not for options to disappear...

OMG...thats messed up.
-
The T7300 had 4 MB of cache.
Looks like the T7250 only has 2 MB. -
^Wow, so Dell IS getting cheaper on their customers.
-
i dont even think its santa rosa (800 mhz fsb)
-
-
you cant even get home premium anymore? that doesnt seem right
-
I just looked and home premium is available, i'm confused
-
Same thing is happening w/the 1720..

It's insane!! I feel bad for anyone that has bought an inspiron after August 30th. Thats when the coupons expired and the price went up. -
the 7250 is 800mhz santa rosa.. just a 2mb cache instead of 4...also vista ultimate is NOT included its a option.. they are including vista home premium right now.. the n cards are gone due to (from what i am told) them almost ready to release the new n standard and they supposedly have slowed production of draft n stuff to make way for the true n standard... again from what im told by a good friend at ibm... yes matte finish screens are gone.. probably for good.. i highly doubt they will be coming back they are hardly offered by any companies anymore
the price of the cd/dvd burner is at 40$ was 20 when i ordered... overall my system has gone WAY UP....
amazing enough the anti glare screens are still available on the 1720's though...
roxio included used to be free now its an extra 40$ (imo roxio sucks no way id spend 40$ for that)
the vostro's still have everything except the matte screen on the 1500... prices changed though
looking at the 1700 now -
1700 has everything but the matte screen it looks like... but they have the matte screen on the 1720... i mean wtf??
-
^Oh yeah sorry about that mistake with the Vista Home Premium vs. Vista Ultimate.
I am running XP, but I think mine came with Vista Home Basic as the default option. -
i will be formating removing their partitions the minute i get it to get a refund via the ula in vista... ill be putting on vista ultimate anyway
but yeah i got stuck with basic also -
Heh, things are still the same on the Canadian site, Dell is probably trying to shorten the delays. It looks like the 7250 is just a slightly higher clocked version of the T7100. So it looks like they are trying to reduce the choice and make all the people buying T7100's and T7300's go for the middle processor that they have an excess of.
-
i remember reading a thread that someone tried this, and the dell rep laughed at them on the phone.. -
The CPU change is Intel's doing and not Dell's.
The T7250 is an 0.2GHz upgrade for the T7100
The T7500 is the new T7300. The T7500 is now exactly the same
price as a T7300.
Intel will stop or has already stopped making T7300 cpus.

AHAH! I bet this is why my T7300 Inspiron is delayed!
-
i didn't get a refund on the vista, instead they gave me a $100 concession!
-
It's economics...
demand is too high right now and Dell is inundated with backorders. The prices have increased, which will reduce the quantity demanded, which will allow Dell to catch up on their backlog.
As soon as Dell catches up on their order the prices will likely drop again, and coupons will come out... thereby increasing demand.
Or something like that. -
Supply and Demand: Supply is down while Demand is up. They are (a little late if you ask me) trying to slow the number of orders they get in for the Inspiron line/XPS 1330 until they have caught up with their backlog.
+rep for Bianca201: Great minds think alike!
k
1520: Lots of options gone, price raised.
