From images and videos, the 1720 doesn't look too much bigger than the 1520. The weight difference if about 2 lbs. I would prefer the 17" over ther 15" but I want some portability.

The price difference of the 1520 and the 1720 is exactly $100 with the specs that I want, so the price is not of a problem. I really do not know which computer to go with. I will use this computer for college and some gaming.

I went with the 1720 for the same purposes. Believe me, with books, a 2 lb difference won't even be noticeable

I'm not worried about the weight. I've been involved with sports through high school and i still go lifting 3 days a week just to stay in shape. I'm more concerned with the size. I wish i could find a picture of the 1520 and 1720 side by side so I can see the difference. I want to take advantage of the free ram and hd upgrade because I really dont' want to take off the keybaord to replace the ram. I've been debating this for such a long time and kept changing my mind over and over. One of the biggest problem is that will the laptop be too big to be used in classrooms with small desks.

Depends on your college style rooms. Some of the older buildings had the flip tops that were not very large at my school, and the newer ones has tables for any size. I really don't think you need a laptop during class anyway, in which point the 1720 can be sitting at home waiting for you. It gives you portability for the occasional road trip. Better viewing screen. And you can take it to meet up for group projects if you like.

So for me, I think the 1720 would be best. Maybe if you insist on taking it to class, the 1420 or 1520 then. But for the dorm room or home use and the occasional trip, the 1720.

    Just some thoughts...hope that helps!

yeah i agree, i ' ve always wanted a 17" screen and i think you'll really apprecaite it - especially if you have a 19"+ desktop monitor - 15" is really small .

    and a num pad! c'mon!

haha... i had a 19" lcd but my brother took that...i have a 17" now and i thought it was small when i first downgraded. The laptop i ordered is basically top of the line. I am hoping that it will last 4 years.
