I have a replacement 1520 coming from Dell... and it turns out that they have "upgraded" it from a WXGA+ display to a WSXGA+. (Might that be due to the scarcity of the WXGA+ displays?)
I understand that the 1440x900 display has issues with graininess, and that certainly appeared to be the problem with mine... and due to a couple other minor problems decided to exchange for a new system.
I'm definitely worried that the higher resolution screen will make text and such too small... I hope to use this notebook primarily for photo editing etc., but would like to be able to game a little too.
The laptop I'm using now is an Inspiron 8200, and the display on it is 1400x1050, and I've been ok with that with some adjustments to font size. I can't remember what I did, but I do remember changing a few things to make things bigger.
There is an option to make text larger without reducing the resolution of the display, right? Will that make it worth getting the upgrade, or should I request the original display?
I am just past the 21 day return window now, so my options I think are limited to requesting the original display I ordered or accepting the one being built.
    Thanks much for your opinions!

There is an LCD shortage so they are trying to get it back to you sooner by shipping you a laptop with parts they actually have. You can probably get your original resolution if you wait.

    Thanks.
Should I wait until I receive it to decide? Or request the original before they ship?

Just wait until you receive and decide, its better to have something and test it out than waiting more time, and you mostlikely can change the the reso

Thanks. Decided to wait and see it first then... With any luck it'll be fine... crossing fingers.
