If I get the Vostro I will have to buy 2gb off ram separately and install and also pay $29 for Windows Vista Premium. In the 1520 I can get everything included for about 900, which one is more worth it?

^^^those are the processors. the vostro has a 1.6ghz and the 1520 has a 1.5ghz. the 8600gt is the video card that you can get with the vostro 1500 for under $800 (look at my sig. you can add premium and 2gb within your price range). the 1520 comes with the x3100, which is integrated and is crap compared to the 8600gt, and it costs slightly under $900

How much is Vostro with 512MB or 1DIMM 1GB RAM? Generally, upgrading RAM yourself is cheaper (unless there is a special DELL discount/promotion on RAM).

2GB RAM AND 8600GT for 900 ?? NO WAY!. It should definitely be an X1300. Most base configurations have X3100, since he didn’t even know what 8600GT was, chances are he never change it.

If only you didn't have to take out the keypad to upgrade the RAM, then I'd upgrade my vid card instead of buying 2 gigs :/.

I ordered vostro 1400 yesterday (upgrade with WSGA+ and webcam for $698 b4 taxes). I called and asked Dell's customer service for upgrade for Vista Home Premium but they did not let me. So did anyone upgrade to Vista Home Premium when ordering your laptops?
I could not find any large pictures of Vostro 1400. Is it an ugly laptop?

There's a rule in buying notebooks...ALWAYS buy the best video card and screen you can afford. Memory, hard drives, even processors can be upgraded later. It wouldn't be bad to upgrade the ram yourself, and if you can't take it to bestbuy or call geeksquad or something.
