Hey im on the verge of buying a new 1520.
Need to know which configuration would give better gaming performance...

    2.2 t7500 Core 2 Duo cpu
    with
    2gig ram

    or

    2.0 t7300 Core 2 Duo cpu
    with
    4gig of ram

So which option between the extra 2 gig ram OR the .2 faster processor will increase performance in current games.

    Thankyou for your insight.

The 2.0Ghz CPU is absolutely sufficient for gaming. I would go with the 4 gb ram.

So from my very primitive understanding of what games need to run well,
cpu, gpu and ram are the main three.
Your quite sure that 4gig of ram will allow better performance that the small cpu upgrade?

From what I gather, the price/performance ratio between the 2.0 and the 2.2 isn't worth the cost. From 1.8 to 2.0 the extra 2MB of cache makes the 2.0 much more efficient in terms of p/p. Granted, going from 2 GB to 4 GB is more expensive than going from 2.0 to 2.2 GHz, but I could only assume you'll get a better increase from the RAM upgrade even if you're shelling out more cash.

My recommendation would be to get the T7500 with 2 GB of RAM and then upgrade the RAM to 4 GB yourself by buying off of newegg.com.

The 4GB RAM upgrade from Dell is 850 dollars which is obscene. One 2GB stick of PC5400 RAM from newegg.com is 115 dollars. $115 x 2 = $230. You'll save over $500. Then you'll also have two 1GB sticks that you can sell.

Personally, I would just get the T7300 and upgrade to 4GB of RAM myself. You won't notice too much of a performance difference between the T7500 and the T7300 unless you're doing DVD encoding or other processor heavy tasks

EDIT: Here's the RAM I was referring to.

It's even got a 15 dollar MIR. (mail in rebate)

The difference in ram here far outways the difference between the processors. So yeah, the 2gb extra ram would help more.

EDIT: Yeah, like Player13 said, the ram upgrade is indeed expensive from Dell.
