so i'm not sure if my 1520 is supposed to be making these particular noises. By now we all know about the high pitch sounds, and headphone interference noise.
2 noises I'm concerned about:
#1 But something I noticed is that a noise coming from the top left (cpu?) makes a clicking noise at certain instances...like a "klick-clock" sound. My 1505 didn't make this sound...is this just the cpu changing from low-high usage states? I'm running a t5250.
#2 If i rock my laptop from side to side, I can hear a sound like a spring or something moving on the left bottom side...almost like the quiet sound of a spring on a clock moving the seconds hand. Anyone get this?
are these normal or something I should contact dell about?

haha man ur crazy, but yeah i hear it too! I didnt even think of putting my ear up to it and rocking it side to side till I read this post.

Now, I have a question. The right lcd screen hings creaks a little bit when I fully extend the lcd screen and begin to pull it back towards me. Does yours? And would anybody know if this is the beginning of the dreaded hinge cracks?

I think I know what "klick-clock" sound your talking about. This happens to me sometimes too in the top-left corner.
I installed a fan control program for the 1520, and if I have it set to maximum speed on the program, the fans will stop for just a second every 10 seconds or so, and make that "klick-clock" sound that your talking about. But if I don't use this program to change the speeds of the fan, they do not make this noise. -
That "click-clock" sound happens to my laptop too(5160), and it started ever since I got a Samsung harddrive, check if your drives are samsung.
-
yeah mine deff is a samsung and its got to be the drive, its right there
-
well the "watch spring sound" is coming from the hard drive when you tip it left to right. the "click clock" sound is right where the processor is, up from where the spring sound is which is the hard drive area. the click clock sound only happens when my computer is idle for a little bit. I think these noises are absolutely normal. I bet its the processor powering down or something.

does this happen? if so, u can use rmclock to fix it otherwise disable c4state in the bios(trade off is battery life) -
see i dont really have a problem with the click clock deally. As long as its not a defective issue
-
is anyone elses wifi catcher button lose? mine kind of shakes around.

i just ordered one today. was it a mistake?

I think my 1520 is great all around. Built like a tank, the lower chassis has no flex at all when i pick it up off my lap.

all i heard in mine, very very rarely is that "click clock" sound when its idle. Maybe like twice a day. The hard drive internals do roll when you tip the laptop left to right and you can hear them. These aren't defects (samsung is too well known) unless theyre all defective. Its a great laptop, no doubt about it. I absolutely love it.

haha you should search my old posts. I find it soooo hard to wait, especially when I know its on its way! I left work early for the dhl delivery and then waited 4 hours for them to get here. I guarantee youl love this laptop. When I stopped on campus today I checked out a lenovo. And I was thinking to myself I saved a thousand dollars and my laptop is every bit as fast and solid as this...

I know what you mean. Waiting for my desktop was horrible. This is also my first notebook that cost me more than 500, so you can imagine how excited I am for it to arrive.

The left-side hinge creaks like crazy on my e1520. Plus, the very first time I opened my computer, the plastic hinge cover on the left popped off and sailed across the room. No joke.
I waited almost two months for this piece of s@$%, and this is what I get. Everything you read about screen graininess is true, too: whites don't look white, but rather like a layer of pinkish, grayish sand. It looks like a combination of a lousy LCD (bad contrast) and Dell's truelife coating (graininess). Why, oh why didn't I cancel my order? -
I had the same sound clicking sound even when it was idle. the sound is due to Hard disk and it means that Hard disk is faulty. I am getting my whole system replaced as I had also problems when I connect my headphones - I hear beeping noises.
The tech support has ordered a new system for me. waiting for the new system.
Otherwise the laptop looks good -
