Is the Dell 1520 getting the boot? Is it being replaced by the 1525?? If I were to buy the 1520 would I be dissapointed? I mean, I can get a 2.2 ghz CPU, 8600m gt, 7200 rpm harddrive, a 9 cell battery and a nice wireless card for just under 1000$.

Am I missing something? (this is using the 400$ off coupon for 1,299$ or over inspirons)

It's getting replaced as Dell wants less overlap between the Inspiron and XPS lines.

I just think it's funny that it is way cheaper (albeit by coupon) than the 1530, yet people are stilling buying the 1530!! At the moment, a 2.0 or 2.2 ghz 1530 is way more expensive than the 1520.

Sure, it weighs a little more, but I don't mind, I bench near 200 lbs. and deadlift 300.

    What is 2 lbs. really?

Can anyone explain why the 1530 (at 2.2 ghz or less) is selling more than the dell 1520???

Maybe something I don't know, it'd be a great help to know, though.

The Dell XPS 1530 uses GDDR3 video memory, which is slightly better than the DDR2 video memory of the Dell Inspiron 1520's card. Also, it has more features and a better styling.

And of course, don't forget the dedicated Customer service dell set up for their XPS lines.

The 1520 is a GREAT laptop, its just that the specs are about the same as the 1530. The 1530 has a slightly fastre gpu. Because the spec are so similar the 1520 cut into the sales of the 1530. For 1k, you will not be disappointed. I had a 1520, I now have the 1530, and I find that the both run identical. I ran crysis on my 1520 on low-med settings. I can now run it on the 1530 on med-high, But I really don't see too much of a differnece!

P.S...I can bench more then you....

I see... so as far as gaming (and 3D rendering) goes....

    1525 - weak
    1520 - weak-powerful
    1530 - powerful

Hence, take out the middle man, have people pay 1000$ for a computer with an integrated graphics card or 2000$ for a laptop with a dedicated GPU...

2lbs is a lot when you have your laptop in you photobackpack along with two full size cameras, five lenses, two full size flashes, assorted filters, batteries, film, manuals, cords, chargers, a full size tripod, and other sundry items.
