Well now i'm almost afraid for my vostro 1400 after this.

My roommate's new inspirion 1520 has been nothing but bad luck. When he got it, the DVD drive would not work. Sent it in, got it back, now its BSODing all the time. Tried another stick of RAM, and its fine.

He loves the machine, when it at least booted up properly, but this is ridiculous. It will have been in for repair for longer then he's had it in his hands. Does he have a right to demand something from Dell on this?

i'd say that's an unfortunate, but very rare experience.
you will hear a LOT of people complain about Dell, and it looks like you witnessed one of the few cases where there was reason to complain.

as long as they give him free repairs, i don't think there's anything he can demand from dell (he might get away with a remote, travel bag, etc..). It does seem unfair to have waited for your laptop only to have to keep sending it back.

Dell, just like any large company, spends millions of dollars on there customer service.

You have every right to complain. They will do there best to satisfy your friend.

Complain vehemently enough and they usually give you a discount! But he shouldn't have paid for that stick of RAM out of his own pocket.

Then again, Dell isn't exactly known for its quality build or customer service (tho I heard things were changing.... yeah, rightt)
