Any known fixes?
Thanks!

press the power button.
-
no problem here
-
I've had the same problem with mine once or twice...and yes I do know you press the power button. It just doesn't wake up and you have to reboot. Any ideas? General issue w/ the computer or could it be vista?
-
It did work when I got the lappy original, so I presume maybe it's some conflict with a driver upgrade or a program I installed.
`
And yes I too tried to press the power button ~.~ -

I What is Media Direct? what would bloatware even consist of in a dell? sorry, I haven't bought a computer in a long long time so I have no idea what you guys see preinstalled.
Thanks a smart Idea lol, makes sense. -
Media Direct lets you play DVD's and CD's without booting to Windows.
Bloatware is unwanted stuff like demo versions of software that you didn't ask for. For example, when I ordered a 1520 I got a 30-day demo of McAfee antivirus, which I didn't want, and Roxio Basic, which I didn't want. -
Did you do a fresh install, or keep the default install? Are you using the Dell Video drivers, or others?
-
I seem to be having the same problem with my 1520. It does not want to wake up from sleep mode right out of the box... I thought that I didnt know HOW to wake it up though... I hope it will be fixed.
-
I had the same problem on mine, and I haven't done a clean install.
You may be right about it being a driver issue; it disappeared when I updated all my drivers. -
Where did you get all your driver updates?
-
I have read that some Nvidia video card drivers have trouble allowing sleep mode.
I have tried several different Nvidia drivers from laptopvideo2go in my 1720 with the Nvidia 8600 card. Some of these drivers work with sleep mode, and some don't let you "wake" the computer up.
To complicate matters, some of the drivers allow better tweaking of the high-end graphics performance of my graphics card. The only thing I can suggest is to download a handful of them and cycle through them until you find one that meets your particular need. -
-
Alright folks. If you think this is the right step, here is my driver information.
I downloaded the 162.22 drivers from http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista
WHQL approved, and it works with the 8600M GT graphics card.
I hope this helps -
i had this problem with my 1420. it was a direct result of using the video drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. upon switching back to the Dell provided video driver on support.dell.com, all the sleep issues i had went away and the laptop woke up properly.
-
I think my nvidia drivers are screwing up sleep for me as well. I like the 162.18 drivers for the performance did increase a healthy margin, but they might cause this sleep issue. I hate nvidia.
-
for me the problem disappeared after i dumped the dell drivers.
are we looking at the wrong source of the problem? -
i dont know what else it could be besides a video problem. cause it is evident the system turns on and there is activity, it's just you cant see a damn thing. this leads me to believe it is a problem with the video adapter, specifically nVidia. from what i have read, nVidia is the only one that suffers from this problem, those with ATI cards have no problems at all with screen flickers or resuming from sleep.
-
which drivers from laptop2go.com did you use? did you try the ones that I'm using?
-
i honestly dont remember which one's i used cause i had tried this like the 2nd day i had my laptop. what i may do when i get home, is load up the ones you are using to see what happens again with the sleep mode.
-
I always pick the newest ones that have been WHQL approved (note little check mark by the download box).
-
so you have no issues going into sleep and coming out of sleep with those drivers?
-
None. I only had my issues w/ sleep mode w/ the drivers that came preinstalled on the laptop.
-
-
I'd try changing the drivers first. We have at least two people here (brianj and myself) who have had the problem go away after changing drivers.
Try updating the drivers your wife's Acer, and tell us if it goes away. If it doesn't, well, at least you've optimized you can optimize your graphics performance. =) -
I face the same problem with 6400. I think this issue is with vista, I read somewhere that microsoft will be releasing patch for this issue with service pack 1 for vista.
-
Alright then, it looks like I was wrong.
But now I have no reasonable explanation for why the problem has gone away... -
It might be the driver, I had updated to 165. whatever on laptovideo2go.com when it began happening now that I think of it.
I'll try to rollback when I get home and see if that works.
It's quite annoying. -
Is it Vista? Is it NVidia drivers?
For me, the answer to both questions has been YES. It's the drivers having trouble with Vista's sleep mode.
I have tried about six different NVidia drivers (from laptopvideo2go). Some work with sleep mode, and some don't.
To complicate matters, some allow overclocking, and some don't. Some perform well, and some don't.
Just keep trying in the 150's and 160's (picking the Vista 32-bit versions, and using the included INF files) until you find one that satisfies your particular needs. You might try 158.36 first. -
Anything new with this sleep mode problem?
-
Just making sure you guys know that in vista sleep mode the PC automatically goes into hibernation after so long.
