    1520 Recovery CD on 1720

    Hi,
    Can i use the 1520 recovery cd on my 1720 machine. I got it from japan and i want english version. My frnd has 1520. Also is it legal to install xp by using my vista oem key. will it work??

    If you are talking about the OS reinstallation CD, then it will work. You won’t be asked to enter a product key on a DELL notebook when using a DELL OEM disk, but it is illegal * to install a different OS edition using an OEM disk other than the original edition came with the notebook.

    *However, you can downgrade from Vista Ultimate/Business to XP without purchasing a new XP product key, looks like it is even valid for OEM editions. but I'm not sure whether you can simply install it without first consulting MS.
