What all partitions come stock on the Dell 1520?
    What are they for?
    And are they needed?

    Thanks!

    That's the forum is for.

Zydan, as far as I've read here, one of the partitions is media partition, and if you remove it, you won't be able to install vista, the other partition must be the recovery partitions.

Though almost everything can be answered through a simple search but no one does that now, do they? Expect some changes tomorrow to the forum(just this one really :p).

Well before I canceled and re-ordered I had Midnight Blue that I ordered on July 16th and was supposed to ship on the 26th and it got delayed.
    Oh the fun.

And yes I suppose I do have a lot of questions, but I have some answers to! :p

Hmm I would like to know a clear answer to this question as well.... And as one of you here said one is a Recovery Partition does and deleting it means you can install Vista again....

I was on the impression that they supply you the Vista DVD as well with the lappy.... So dont they do that ? One guy whom I PMed said so and another guy somewhere had said he had not received any such DVD...... :(

If the selections for OS did not say "with media" it probably won't come with the media. :p

I've emailed my sales rep. requesting the media be shipped to me.

My Son's came with only the 1 "C" Partition. If you have more, I personally think its a good thing. I like to keep Games and Data away from the programs partition when I can. Makes it easier to defrag a smaller partition too.

His also came with all Back Up discs. Vista, Drivers, etc. Must be 5 or 6 discs in all.

Stop worrying so much...look forward to exploring your new toy when it arrives.....

Actually you can later also split up your partitions using utility like Partition Magic or some other tool keeping the data intact :) ....
