    Finally!! I can't believe it~
Not sure how many of you have read my posts or kept up with me, but I originally ordered a 1520, Midnight Blue, T7300 back on July 16th, estimated ship date the 26th. Well the order sat in the build stage till finally on the 26th I got the call about the delay.
So I called Thrusday evening, canceled the order, switched to Black and T7500 since they said T7300 was on delay as well.
Well as of today it's in the kitting stage, which I never heard of before but I'm just glad it's somewhere besides build!
So....anyone know what kitting stage is?

If I am not mistaking...the kitting stage is before the build stage :( I think then it goes into build and then testing.....

kitting is part of the build stage. Its where they place all the required parts in a tote, and place it on the assembly line to be built.

Looks like we ordered on the same day. When you say "build" stage, do you mean "in production?"

If yours truly gets shipped out shortly, I might ahve to consider reordering because my wait has been rediculous as im about to hit my second delay.

"Build stage" is a subset of the "in production" stage. Your online status (at least for the xps laptops in the U.S.) will only say "in production" for that entire stage, and you have to call the automated phone status line to get your specific sub-stage (either building, testing, or boxing)

What he said is correct, call: 800 433-9014 and enter your account number, it will tell you what stage of Production you're in.
Kitting > Build > Testing > Boxing > Shipping I believe is the order
Although lately it seems it's Build > Kitting > Build > Testing > Boxing > Shipping
    Fun!

since people seem to be in the "build" stage for a week or more some times, when in reality it probably takes an hour to truly build a computer, i think build is what they say when you're really just waiting around. in this case, kitting could be an improvement, meaning that they've at least started getting your parts together.

If kitting is just getting your parts together, then wouldn't that fall into more of a pre-production stage (I don't really know much about kitting though)? Since they would first need all the parts together before they actually start building?

I ordered on the 8th of July, he ordered on the 26th, and hes already in boxing? Im still in build. Ive been told that none of my parts are on backorder but Im going to get some answers out of dell next week.

Did you ever get them to expedite your order or offer better shipping? Some people on these forums say they just throw expediting word around loosely and it does not mean anything. But I am thinking it does make a difference.

Yes I would be upset too. I would demand they expedite at this point and give you overnight. If they fly it over on Monday and they overnight.. you can still get it by Thursday next week. In my case.. I just told them I really needed it by the end of the month.. (it arrives 7/30) She asked if I wanted them to overnight my notebook.. I said yes.. she asked if I wanted my case overnighted too.. I said. no... I can wait for that.. So my 1420 is fed x and the case is DHL.. I mean. **** was I lucky or what? They pretty much did exactly what I asked. I must add I ordered a 1420 red so this may be completely different then trying to push a 1520 through.. It seems from these threads a hell of allot more people are wanting the 15".

Yeah I was told my order was expedited and that I would have Overnight shipping for free but nothings changed. Its supposed to ship monday (after it was delayed from last monday) but its still in the build stage and its been their for over 2 weeks now.

Don't think it will ship on Monday. Unless they are flying over the Pacific on the Weekend.. However, depending where its flying.. probably Malaysia, it may already be Sunday there.. Is Malaysia across the international date line? Someone said Monday through Friday they ship a ton of these on a 747 to the dell facility in the US. If they are on the other side of the date line then it may go into boxing tomorrow and arrive in the US on Monday. But it would be impossible for the carrier to get it to you on the same day. But its possible you may see it on Tuesday or Wednesday. Mine went into boxing last Thursday... and Dell called on Friday with tracking number and I will get it on Monday.. It should take around 3 days once it goes to boxing. Your system should have been on the same flight as mine.. but it sounds like it will leave on their Monday.. unless it gets delayed even further.

Edit.. stupid me takes a second to look up on net.. its 7:38 AM Sunday in Malaysia now.. its Saturday 5:40 PM GMT right now where I am. So indeed it could go into boxing tomorrow They are 14 hours ahead of us.. The flight probably takes that long so it can actually land in the US around the time it left Malaysia. I know that feeling since I travel to Fiji every few years.

Well seeing as how Im still in the build stage, Im fairly certain i'll get delayed at least another week. Ive been told that none of my parts are backordered but I plan on getting more answers if Im delayed again. Should It come down to that, Im simply going to reorder, with Jet Black color, possibly a better CPU and wireless card.

Don't get discouraged about the build stage thing. I never even heard the automated status tell me it was in testing.. Wednesday it said build. Thursday it said boxing.. and Friday it went to Fed X. When it changes from build it will be coming your way really quick.

My best guess is your system just missed their last flight out last week.. Friday.. which is our Thursday. So now, if it indeed makes the next flight it will be flying tomorrow.... their Monday. If not.. yeah..I would probably cancel and reorder and ask for the highest priority on the newer system.

I have been waiting on my 1720 since the 8th and it has been in the BUILD stage since I ordered!! I am so close to giving up and re-ordering. I swear if it does not get shipped this time when they say 8/2 I am going to cancel and just re-order a different color or something. I am not sure if the color is holding up my show or if it is the LCD screens...I don't know why Dell has too keep it so secretive...like it is "confidential government information"....geeze.

I'm sure they'll have it all settled in August though.
That's the one I originally chose.

So Zydan, did you ask for the free upgrade to the T7500? I plan on reordering tomorrow because apparently my order is now bing affected by the Midnight Blue delay, even though there was no delay when I ordered. However, I feel like I should get some kind of compensation for waiting nearly a month on an order that was waiting on backordered parts when they straight up told me many times that the reason for the delay was not because of a backordered part.

I am happy to wait at this point, as it is exactly the build I wanted. I am giving my husband my old laptop, a Dell Inspirion B130, once the new one comes. This one works fine for now, is just slower then I want when it comes to multitasking. This will be my husband's first pc, the B130. He has slowly started surfing, and, well, I am rather protective of my laptop, so would rather he have his own. ;)

This age of technology is amazing. We are a family of three, my 19 year old daughter is in college. Now, we will each have our own laptops.

Yeah I asked for it, I wasn't planning on asking for until the guy told me that the T7300 also had a delay on it.
I was talking with a supervisor by that time, and I told him to just forget it and cancel it all together, he asked me if there was anything else he could do to have me keep the order and I told him then that he could upgrade me and keep me at the same price.
After a little haggling he agreed.
Told me he wouldn't give me back the overnight shipping though, which was really not a big deal.
Just call back after order complete and ask for it and they give it right back ;)

I ordered 1520 on July 19, given a est shipping date of 8-7. When I called today, I was told that there are no colors except white availalbe and they have no idea when they will get more cases in so they can build the computers. I have been referred to corporate (who will call me back) to see if I can get an accurate estimate so I can decide whether or not to cancel. This is my first experience with Dell and I'm not finding it a happy one. I ordered midnight blue. When I called customer service last week, they denied that there was any delay for colored cases whatsoever.

I ordered a midnight blue 1520 on July 19 and was given an est shipping date of Aug 7. When I spoke to customer service last week they denied there was any problem with cases or backorder and offered me free next day shipping. When I spoke with them today, they told me they do not have an 1520 cases except white and have no idea when they will receive more. I was referred to corporate headquarters (who have to call me back) to see if I can get a somewhat realistic idea of when they will be actually be able to build and thus, ship the computer so I can decide whether or not to cancel. Any suggestions?

    kstan,
Let us know what corporate says. I would like to think that they would be different than CS from India or some dumb American.
