Just came today, I'm in Las Vegas, NV and it took 3 days to ship (including a weekend).

Here is a pic of my screen taken with a Nikon S200, there is no "graininess" and I checked for backlight bleed by Previewing screensaver blank.

I plugged in a high quality Plantronics headset, and Senheiser HD485's, and noticed no weird static noise beyond the normal hiss of "volume 100%".

I am using XP SP2, got all my drivers installed fine.

Will post CS:S video stress test in a bit.

    EDIT: those specks are dust.

Nice. I got the 1280 x 800 glossy. Hope there aren't any problems with it.

I have the noise but only with headphones. I dont here it with speakers plugged into the jack. I also changed an option in the registry under the sound card wich seemed to help.

    OK I did CS:S at:

    DX9+
ALL HIGH, water reflect ALL, color correction OFF, bumpmap/specular ON, 1280*800, SIXTEEN times anisotropic filtering, 0x AA (don't need it at such high res).

    124.83 FPS.

That's stock, and almost 3 times the FPS of my 8400M GS in my HP dv6500t. With OC'ing/GDDR3, this could easily get 200+ FPS on that stress test.

Damn how do I check my VRAM? lol

hey. so i see you have glossy. do you recomend anti glare or glossy? is anti glare less bright? does anti glare just look like any old LCD laptop screen from a few years back?

I have ANTI-GLARE. And those specks are DUST, lol--all in my orig post. Yes I edited the dust in, but that was <1min, as it doesn't tell you "Last edited...".

I took that pic as soon as I opened it up and powered it on. Now I am running XP.

    More CS:S benchmarks--

Model Quality High, Texture Quality High, Shaders Low, Shadows High, DX8.0 (no color correction), HDR OFF, Aniso 2x, AA 0x, Water Simple Reflexxnz, 1280*800 gave me *208.33 FPS* on the VST.

It still looks great (bumpmap/specular ON), and gave me a huge perf. boost over DX9+, which isn't really necessary anyway.

Why would you edit dust in? LOL just kidding.

So, how would you describe the color, overall brightness and linearity of this screen?

I still can't wait to get mine!!! :D

Same here. It's strange cuz I only hear it through my headphones. I don't hear anything when I have my speakers plugged in even with the volume turned all the way up.

It must have somethign to do with what channels the different audio device recieve. I hope the headset I got doesn't have the problem.

I love how everyone here at NBR with the 1520 have identical specs.

Is the screen held firmly in place by the latch when closed?

What registry setting did you change and why? I'm asking because I think what you did may be a solution to my problem!

I have the dreadfull hiss in my headphones too. But no high pitch noise coming from the laptop. I was wondering: maybe Dell is sending out the latest laptops with C4 disabled? Or with the Bluetooth trick enabled so that there is no sound but there will be a lower battery life.

Is there a way to check if this is the case?

Glostix, how's your battery life? Have you assessed it already?

by pressing down the lid when closed. If it does "clackityclack", like mine does, it is not held firmly.
Personally, I don't care much. But other people might find this annoying.

Silly question, but what did you mean by C4?

And if I was really worried about a loose latch, I would probably buy some stylish cabinet/cupboard damper pads and stick them to the top of my screen XD

The 1520 laptop I received two weeks ago also didnt have any noticeable grainness (though there may be unnoticed but who cares abt that :D )....

My room-mate really liked the clear bright glossy display..... The only thing is since my room is prone to dust, the screen easily picks up a lot of dust and I need to regularly wipe it with the glass cleaning cloth......

I think the reason has to do with group consensus on screen, hard drive, processor. The reason why I went with 1200x800 was the issues with the screen in the higher resolutions. I guess I have a little backlight bleed but it is nothing that bothers me and most times I can't notice it. I'm happy, but given the issues that people have found I am glad I did my research on here.
