I just got off the phone with customer service and they explained to me that the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT was the reason for the delay of my 1520. Anyone else find that to be the case with their 1520?

It is somewhat confusing though, as I ordered the Midnight Blue I thought that would be the hold up from what I have been reading on these forums. The rep assured me that this was not the case for my order... *shrug*

Oh, first post btw. Hi everyone : )

    Who knows anymore.
I was assured it was the Midnight Blue when I spoke with a couple different people there.
    I guess we'll never truly know~
The G1S is looking better and better, weeeeeeeeeeeeeee

considering so many notebooks have been purchased with that GPU it is not suprising. I am willing to bet that they simply COMPLETELY underestimated how many GPUs they would need. Much like many other parts that they order...

Hi I just got off of a 2.5 hour run around with Dell  to :

    1. find out why my 1520 (Expresso Brown - Intel T7300 - NVIDIA GeForce ) was going to be delayed again (from 8/1 to 8/28).

    2. see if I could order something else that I could get sooner

I was told that the reason they are delayed has to do with the LCD display ... and to maybe order a 1420.

I spent another hour on the phone canceling my order and getting the 1980.00 bucks credited back to my Dell credit card.

I configured a 1420... but haven't pulled the trigger on that one because I have wasted all afternoon on this.

Should I go to the mall and just buy a Sony Vaio FZ ??

I feel ya. I'm thinking about getting a Vaio CR instead of my 1520. Not as powerful, but I can just build a desktop to play games on...

Even if I do end up getting the Dell this time, this will be the last time I ever deal with them.

On the build process of the 1520 they list every item that may delay your order. The only things that I saw could delay your order would be:
    A. Color of Notebook
    B. Intel X3100 GPU

That's all they're showing. The 8600M GT isn't listed as delaying the order.

Why would an internal GPU delay your order, isn't it built on the motherboard? So people who buy an 8600GT essentially have a X3100 under the hood plus a discrete card?

I was told first it was the Screen. Then I was told it was the blue color. Then I was told it was the combination of the color and Webcam. Then I was told it was the combination of the color and the screen. Then I was told it was the Processor.

Everyone (these were all Dell reps) has given me different information and insisted that the other people were misled because "The system just updated - they must have had old information" even though it was as little as 10 minutes between them.

I cant really believe any of them now.

The good thing is, they gave me another $200 off for my 2nd delay, which is nice.

I can confirm this aswell bluemonkey. I phoned to Dell Germany and the guy on the phone told me that the 8600M-GT is the reason for the delays of the Vostro 1500..
