My son just got his 1520 a week ago, with a 6 cell battery. Today with a full charge he could only watch a movie for 1hr 55 minutes. I thought you could at least get 2hrs from a full charge. Are there some basic setting changes that would increase the battery life? Thanks for the help

One thing you might try is making sure you are using the best Power Plan for battery use by right clicking the power/battery icon in the system tray, choose Power Options, an adjusting it to your preference from the options available there.

watching a DVD is one of the most (if not THE most) draining thing you can do with your computer with regards to battery life. the DVD drive needs to constantly spin on top of the normal computer needs that drain a battery.

if you want to increase battery life, you should rip movies to the HD instead of using the actual DVD drive

I have the 9cell extended battery, and on power save i get around 5 hours of battery life. so, you should be getting around 2/3 of that...meaning atleast 3 hours. Mess around with the settings a little ;P

disable the wireless, lower the brightness, let it run on max battery, and not expect it to last long while playing a dvd only on a 6 cell battery...get a 9 cell if you care about it lasting.
