Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up that the A07 BIOS is out...

    http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/1520_A07.EXE

    It claims to have

    Fixes/Enhancements
    ------------------
    1. Updated Intel microcode.
    2. Added support for Blu Ray/DVD+/-RW Combo drive.
    3. Support newer version of Intel processor.
    4. Added enhancement for thermal control.
    5. Added enhancement for MediaDirect control.

So looks like support for the Penryn or however Intel spells that...

I will post any comments after i have it installed ;)

    Howcomes 1520s get A07 already while Vostro only at A03. -_-;;
btw, can I flash my 1500 with 1520's Bios? Aren't they the same laptop anyways?

    Hi guys,

    What do the following mean:
    "Updated Intel microcode."
    ??

"4. Added enhancement for thermal control."
What kind of 'enhancement'? I like the current thermal control. With RMClock and SuperLFM @800Mhz, I managed to have the fan1 turn off 95% of the time (only slow, dead silent video card 900rpm fan running)

I'm hoping #4 means "fix to CPU whine"

Still whine here on headphones with the new BIOS...

Other than that nothing worth writing home about noticed so far...

"static" in the headphones is different than the CPU whine. The CPU whine comes from the CPU itself and not through the speakers.

I still hear static through the headphones too. I've yet to try B2's fix.

Wow sweet, weird, big jump from 3 to 7. I assume they didn't release the in between builds. The Thermal thing makes me wonder if it's tweaks to the way temperatures are detected and determined. Possibly more accurate readings are a result. Who knows I'm speculation here on that part.

Although this is definitely support for Penryn. Woot, if you're gonna upgrade. Me, I doubt it, not that much of a change from benchmark results.

And yes, static in the headphones is due to poor grounding issues/interference. Nothing CPU related, to resolve the headphones static, review the guide in my signature. :p

Time to update my BIOS :D

...I think I know what this means now...I was updating my packages and the fan suddenly did a short burst of activity - Full speed for like a second.
So I think when the processor is not under extended load, the fan will just do short bursts or something like that.

It did for me on every bios update, so I guess this isn't the change...
