UPDATE: Well, I was able to convince Dell to send me the X-Fi sound card free of charge, so I guess the problem is solved for me.
I can recommend to anyone else having the same trouble to contact tech support online, get a case number, and then talk to customer service online and get them to send you the part. It was a fairly easy process online.

Does it occur everywhere or maybe your using the lap near a noisy appliance???
We ordered 2 1520's with no fault except for the screen bleed off on the bottom.
Merry Christmas. -
It occurs everywhere with my machine. Many, many other users are having the same problem.

some people seriously believe that lawsuits are holy and actually solve things...
-
Seriously, Class Action Lawsuits are not the answer to solve all problems.....I wish people would realize this before they go beeking off about starting one. -
Oh ya big man - threatened to lay down a lawsuit to get a $20-$40 sound card after buying a $1200-$2000 computer. Next time stomp your feet on the ground and cry and whine, it might work too...
YOU SHOWED THEM, YOU 'STUCK IT TO THE MAN'...
They only reason they reacted was just so they didn't get the bad publicity. Oh, and being forced to pay lawyers to brush you off like dandruff on there corporate shoulders.
I seriously hope you're tittle is just misleading, because honestly it really makes you look immature.
Enjoy you're $20 sound card... -
Its a $75buck card, and good for you agreenbhm for *****ing off & getting it.
-
Really $75 for that crappie thing and it's inconveniences?
Still.. doesn't make a dent towards the cost of the laptop in comparison. -
For the 1600 bucks I paid for my Inspiron, it should work out of the box PERFECTLY... , besides, i use my express card port for a cellular internet card, as I live in a rural area with no other affordable option for high-speed intenet, so I would not be able to listen to music (using an X-fi express card) and access the internet at the same time... not worth all the hassels. I seny my unit back to Dell and am waiting for my refund.

you guys have other options for sound cards which include USB audio (not sure how forthcoming Dell would be in sending out one of those). There are some very nice and portable options out there. It is still an inconvenience though and I understand your gripe. I myself fixed the noise on my Inspiron 1420, it wasn't as hard as I thought when I followed the guide on here.
I can recommend using a Total Bithead USB headphone amp/sound card from www.headroom.com from 'uber quality' headphone sound. Otherwise you should be happy with something a bit cheaper.
