downloaded the sata drivers from dell support based on the service tag number.
cant install sata drivers(matrix storage manager) : "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software "

at the drivers desc is A02

Your BIOS setting might be in ATA mode and so it wont allow you to install the SATA drivers.... So you have to forcefully install the SATA drivers in Vista or XP and during the reboot go into BIOS and change the mode to SATA.....

Note that setting one mode in BIOS and installing the driver for the other will only bring you to a BSOD....

it's possible...but why would you install SATA when your drive is in ATA mode.

The best way is to integrate the SATA drivers into your XP installation CD with nlite. (and install with hdd set to AHCI in bios)

slipstream the SATA driver on the WinXP CD before installation. If you have an external floppy, you can provide the driver during installation too.

No it is still possible to change to the SATA driver.... You need to choose Upgrade driver for the SATA controller in Device Manager and choose the SATA driver inf file and choose the exact model number of the driver..... Now windows will install the driver and ask you to reboot.... Now while rebooting go into BIOS and change the mode to AHCI and now it should be in SATA mode....
