Hey guys. I posted earlier about purchasing a 1520 for my girlfriend as a gift. I originally had the 1520 with wxga+ screen but i returned it after showing my GF a couple of laptops at bestbuy and she liked the size of the wxga rather than the +.

Anyway, today I received the 1520 and I think the screen is terrible. The viewing angles are one of the worst I have ever seen. You practically have to look straight on. In addition, I think mine has excessive backlight bleeding. On a black background, it appears to be white or really washed out as if you were looking at the screen at a bad angle. The wxga+ screen was way way better looking. The LCD is the "CTP141F". I'm not sure what to do now.

yes, I think the screen is absolutely terrible. I've never seen such bad viewing angles. I paid so much money for this thing.

I have a WXGA screen w/Truelife, and yes the viewing angles aren't great from the side but are fine straight on. It's a laptop, not a TV.

cpt usually are pretty good with viewing angles and are usually awesome with accurate colors.. but they suck as with light bleeding, some of the ones i have seen cover half the screen

Well this screen has both bad light bleeding and terrible viewing angles. I couldn't resist so I showed my gf the laptop and also played a dvd movie on it. She agreed that the screen was really bad. On just a very slight side or even vertical angle, the colors become washed out and the image appears sort of like a negative film.

Anyway, I arranged to return the system free of charge and I will just take my chances with a wxga+ screen along with the complete care warranty.

By the way even the Dell website states that the viewing angles of the WXGA are much worse than the WXGA+ and the WSXGA.
