I ran it a few times and got a decent score.

wow thanks!
-
woah that seems really nice. did u overclock Osserpse?
-
Yea. That was done at 595/500.
-
overclocking scares me

thanks guys. note to take...chesie you have a good score but that's on 1280x800..so we can't compare that score to the other people's default 1280x1024 scores.

I'd love to see some FPS differences between overclocked and stock speed GPUs!
-
Osserpse what drivers are you using to get your 8600M GT to OC in XP?
Thanks. -
-
^Sweet thx.
-
-
And it's 1280 by 854, not 1280 by 1024 . I bet I'd hit over 4k if I were at that resolution.
-
I just have the trial and an unable to change resolutions though
-
just wondering...is 1280x854 a remotely common resolution? i've never heard of it
-
From what I can tell 1280x854 is the 3dmark06 resolution used for screens who have a native resolution of 1440x900.
-
Mine (free Version of 06) uses 1280x800 on my 1440x900 screen. 1280x854 is surely no common resolution, might be it's a bug or something...
But the scores seem pretty nice to me. I read some reviews which stated "only" about 3000 3D Marks for the 1520 with GF 8600 GT, but these were of course non-OC. -
Osserpse, can you notice a significant temperature increase after OC'ing?
-
Not at all. I'm maxing out at ~71C (compared to ~70C with no overclock).
-
How does this over clocking business work?
-
From what i understand you can only overclock on windows xp as of now if you want to be running on the best drivers. The drivers that allow for overclocking for Vista didn't work for me and several others. I'd say that within a week we should see some programs or drivers coming out that support overclocking on the new vista platform.
-
My 1520 benched at 2900 in 3DMark06, but I have 1680x1050 so that was at the true default resolution.
-
-
Oss, are you benching in XP? I'm stable at 580/440 in Vista, but I'm only getting 3288 in 3DMark06. It's still a huge improvement, but I was hoping to hit the stock scores for the G1S.
-
-
Ah, so your 3800 in XP is probably identical to my 3300 in Vista . I feel a little better now! Can you post your clocks please? Apologies if I missed them somewhere.
-
The clock speed for that score was 595/500. -
Ahhh . . . I just can't get the memory up that high. It glitches out on me .

When I worked for Intel back in the late 90's, they would do something called "bin splitting" - they would essentially make a bin (batch) of ram or cpus, attempt to make them all the highest speed, then test them, to see what speed they could actually reach without flaking out.
Then they would sell them at the speed they could reach, but often times they split up the bin (batch) and sold some them at even lower speeds, to fill orders. So when you try to overclock, you really have to hope you got some of the cpus or ram that they just "bin split" and sold at lower speeds to fill orders, rather than the cpu or ram that genuinely could only reach that speed.
Its a total crap shoot, unless you know someone at the manufacturer that can tell you, based on the serial number of the cpu or chip, what bin, or batch it was from.
Some guys will just luck out and get 700Mhz ram just sold as 400Mhz and can overclock as much as they want - And some will get 400Mhz ram that cant be overclocked much if any. -
My 7700 go overclocks 50 mhz more than any of the 7700 gos that were sold later to my knowledge.
All the first ones were the same way as far as I know, the first people who got it.
Just some random thing to throw in about getting different ram. I mean it is even the same ram its the same part exactly as far as you can tell but it overclocks 50 mhz more. -
I was reading direct2dell and dell is "binning" cpus for their high end desktop XPS systems. Apparently they ran out of "bin-3" chips for their extreme overclocked model but still offer "bin-2" chips. Funny 'cause I was doing this back in the 90's and ebaying the chips that didn't cut the mustard. -
Osserpse, that looks like an updated screen/score. Nice work!
The 8600M GT with DDR2 with be good enough for me but it's a shame that it's not GDDR3. I'd expect that people would be pulling score close to 4500 at 1280x1024 if it were. Ultimately it looks like the 7900 GS is still a better solution if you're a true budget enthusiast. Was reading some posts earlier and seeing e1705's easily pushing over 5000 on 3dmark06... I'm half tempted to buy one instead. -
i think once the drivers mature and after a bit of OC they could go 4k to 4.5k
1520 + 8600m GT -- Post your 3dmark06 scores!
