As it says in the title. What gives? I've tried setting power setting to battery saving but the temp didn't change. I'm doing very light internet surfing.

I did the RMClock fix for the Inspiron 1520 noise (word for word, no other options), could that have affected something? As well in NHC Cpu performance is set to MAX but I'm not running any intensive apps so CPU load is at 10% or less.

BTW temp in the room is 20.5C.

My 1420 T7100 is idling at 42C, but 54 really isn't that high and I wouldn't worry too much about it. Perhaps try cleaning out the vents and fans?

D830 with T7300 idles in the low 50's as well. You've got nothing to worry to worry about. According to Intel the new C2Ds are good up to 100C (with thermal shutdown at an incredible 125C).

That may well be the reason. Because once you disable those deep power saving modes and set the CPU performance to maximum, your CPU will operate at the maximum clock speed even when idling. And windows power saving modes will have no effect after that. CPU will draw more power and produce more heat.

However, 54C is nothing to be worried about. But you may notice a drop of few degrees if you remove those changes.

I've downloaded a program called I8kfanGUI which allows me to switch fans on even if idling and I must say its the perfect solution. It pains me to see idling temps at ~55C but with fanGUI I'm idling (internet only) at 32-33C only 10 mins after running 3dmark06 a couple of times. +it drowns out whatever is left of the infamous 1520 whine

My 1520 sat at 55C when idling (normal ) and after purchasing a Vantec Lapcool 3 my normal temps are 35C-37C. Well worth the twenty dollars. :)
