I have read the review on the 1501 which was on a Sempron chip and the review concluded that the 1501 was vastly inferior to the 1505.
However I wonder if anyone has had experiences with the new AMD Turion Tl56 X2 chip - from a price point basis it looks as though it trumps teh Core2Duo series.

I am not sure what the rough equivalents of AMD vs Intel should be? Like for like in terms of Ghz?> How should I compare them?

the 1501 comes across as much cheaper- another difference are the screen options. Anyone have opinions on this?

My opinion is that even though the e1501 might be a little cheaper, the e1505 is better even though it costs a little bit more. The value per dollar is higher with the 1505. If you don't need dedicated graphics, go for the e1405. All modern processors will have plenty of Mhz for your needs. Welcome to the forums!

I currently have a core2duo and I personally see no vast improvement from it than my outdated 2.4 Pentium4. I mean, doing benchmarks and stuff, there is a number difference, but everyday stuff like checking the web, watching video, or listening to music, there isn't any. I did notice that window did not freeze up as much with the core2, so maybe that's a plus. I don't thing there isn't really a need to get the best processor right now since none have prove to be an essential must have.

That being said, I would still choose intel over AMD since the Intel one would offer more battery life. AMD is just a little behind on intel in that department.

BTW, I don't really think that the 1501 are that much cheaper. I mean, I got the config for my laptop (in my signature) for less than 1K. You just gotta wait for one of dell's crazy coupons (mine was the 30% one :)).

Very helpful comments- I am using a circa 2001 Fujitsu laptop which has been serving me faithfully but it just cant seem to cope with Microsoft Office 2003 and assorted add-ons like Adobe Acrobat( one GIG! ) .
I guess any laptop I get will be a vast improvement.

I amanged to config a 1505 similar to what you have for about 1116 with taxes. I am just wondering if I should go for broke and get a Compal simplyh because it is smaller!

Which Compal are you considering? They often are sturdier than Dell's consumer line, not to mention being more unique.

For "smaller" tasks like that, you aren't going to even notice a difference over an older processor. Processors have way too much power for the average consumer nowadays, so usually it is just a matter of hitting the right price point.

Vespoli I am probably going offtopic on this one but I quite like the size of Compal 14 HGL30 - 14inchmakes it easier to carry around in my back pack. Reconsidering trying to squueze a 15.4 inch notebook in my bag , and my schoolbooks. I am heading to Asia for a holiday and the interesting thing is that Compal isnt sold there only Asus!
