Hello,
I'm still waiting for my Dell Inspiron 6400, which was shipped this morning. From Dell's website I was able to get the Service Tag, so I found a way to open up a list of exact parts that my laptop consists of.
Turns out that my display is the following:
PF881 MODULE, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WS+, SMSN, GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, 6400
CF264 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, SAMSUNG
I think the "SMSN" means Samsung, and having read somewhere that these are crappy, I freak! Please, tell me what the difference between LG and Samsung is, or it's just a hype, and I won't notice much of a difference.
Thanks!

Just remember that not every monitor is viewed the same for each person.
There will always be people who will never be satisfied or nit pick everything.
When you get your new laptop don't look for excuses or "opinions" from others that will lead you to believe your monitor is crap.
Judge by your own opinion and not swayed by others. -
Well, yes, Fresh-Popcorn, I think you are right. Oh well, I just wanted to hear some opinions, but I will not let myself get biased by other people's views..
Anyway--I noticed one other thing:
1 W5966 DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 1GB, 533, 128X64, 8K, 200
Well, I ordered 2 GB of memory, did they make a mistake and are sending it with only 1 Gb of RAM ? -
Not all models of Samsungs are bad. There seem to be a bunch of bad ones they were using a few months back.
Also, I had my UXGA model changed from a Samsung to LG and while it did make a huge difference in color, it's still bad enough that I'm not keeping it. The tech that changed them out couldn't even tell the difference between the two (which was basically that they looked the same and had grainy whites, but that the LG could be configured to show reasonable brightness and contrast and still show colors correctly, and the Samsung was hopeless) -
I have had both, and the Samsung is more fussy about viewing angles, and the LG is brighter.
I did not "hate" the Samsung, but after seeing both side by side...
Also, I thought the code for Samsung was SEC? -
The code for Samsung is SEC - but Dell doesn't use those codes when describing what you are going to get. Mine said:
1 DF856 Module,Liquid Crystal Display 15.4WU,D820,Sharp
and Sharp has a code (though I forget what it is). Turns out that since mine was refurbished they had put a Samsung in it and not updated the info. -
Sharp code is SHP.
