This is different from what I have heard here, people said there is no restocking fee at all. ?! What now? I don't want to pay $200-300 + shipping fee when I request a refund later.
Also do you guys know how the complete care work? So even if you dropped your laptop...they can replace you with a new one?

They do not charge a restocking fee if you return it because of a technical fault. They will, however, take 15% if you return just because you changed your mind about the notebook.

The 15% fee became common because apparently hardcore LAN gamers would purchase something from them, use it, and then return it weeks later. Then purchase a new one, return it. Purchase, return, etc, etc, etc. Just so they could get the hottest system and can at any time get all their money back.
I remember when the restocking fee became the industry 'standard' for tech items...and I specifically remember news articles and customer policy cites blaming incidents as I described as the root reason for the policy. -
for example if I find something wrong with my laptop (eg. cpu whine) I can ask for a refund w/o the restocking fee?
o can someone answer the complete care warranty? I talked to a saleperson at an electronic store and he told me its too good to be true..so I was wondering what EXACTLY does the complete care cover? -
In regards to the restocking fee, note the words used...SUBJECT TO...not YOU WILL BE assessed a 15% restocking fee. If you have a good reason or something, they will take it back without one. But if there is something wrong, they will send you a brand new replacement...if you just changed your mind, they will try to get you to pay a restocking fee. Dell can no longer sell your computer as new, it is now refurbished and they need to sell it at a lower cost - the restocking fee helps recoup some of the cost of that
In regards to the CompleteCare, it isn't a warranty it is a "Accidental Damage Service" similar to insurance. All you do is call Dell's technical support line when an accident occurs and report the problem. Depending on the cause and extent of damage, and other service options you’ve purchased, Dell will initiate repair or replacement services. The CompleteCare "bundle" also comes with LoJack as well.
Examples of what CompleteCare covers is:
Liquid Spills
Dropping the system
Electrical Surge
Damaged/Broken LCD
Accidental Breakage
Those are only examples, there are some other instances where CompleteCare would kick in...but I mentioned LoJack, and you may think that CompleteCare would cover Theft but it does not. If your system gets stolen, all you have is LoJack to try to recover it - if they can't, no system for you <_< -
I've never been charged a restocking fee by Dell. Never.

i was told by 3 separate Dell reps that the 15% restocking fee is only charged after the 21 day grace period and up until then, you can return it for any reason and not be charged a thing, except shipping if the box is opened. so dont know what the real story is since apparently others are saying differently.

You pretty much only pay the restocking fee if you've already received your laptop and decide to return it to them for a refund because you don't want it anymore.
You do not have to pay it if you send your laptop in for repairs or replacement, under the 21 days after receiving it policy or under a warranty.
If you play your cards right you could probably even avoid the restocking fee if you buy a different laptop from Dell instead of the one you received.
