I purchased a Dell D630 with a 1490 WiFi card, my router is a Netgear MR814v2 which is an 802.11b.
To date with the help from Dell support I was unable to connect to my router, but I can connect to some public WiFi area.

Checking documentation on the 1490 card some say it is an: A,B & G card others say A&G. Even the Dell documentation gives both versions.

Could anyone with experience guide me?

    Thank you,

Have you connected to the router successfully with anything else?
G implies B support, so the wifi card you have should work fine with 802.11b.

Direct cable works well and I also connect with my old Laptop no problem.

if G implies B, my card may be defective.
