1440x900 or 1680x1050, which one of these resolutions would be best for me! i will use the 1530 for watching blueray movies, photo's, maybe some games, browsing the internet alot and writing assessments alot as i will be at uni!
Which screen would be best for me, i dont wont to be finding it hard to read text on the internet pages, and alike, just dont know, but full 1080 i or p "dont know which" is very attractive!

If you want to game I'd say go for the 1440x900 screen as the higher native resolution you go the more stress it puts on the GPU to render at the said resolution.
A 1680x1050 is great if you watch alot of high quality media, use photoshop, video edit or like alot of desktop space. But alot of people say that on a 15.4" screen it does make it harder to read.
Its impossible to get 1080 HD as its 1920×1080 native, and that makes writing super small on a 15.4" screen plus I don't even know if that is offered but I definately would not recommend it to game. -
i would suggest 1440x900
1680x1050 will make typing hard on your eyes.. 12pt font will look like 7 on the screen. internet will be the same.
1440x900 is good for hd movies also.. imo, that resolution is perfect for a 15" notebook.
but screen resolution is a pretty personal preference so go to bestbuy or some where there are notebooks on display and take an in person look at the different resolutions... that would be the best way. -

1440x900 would be fine for you. As someone said before everything would look smaller with a 1680x1050 screen.
-
Im thinking 1440x900 now as that comes with led backlight soon but i dont know!! why does the apple pro "think" come with 1680x1050?
-
keep in mind that the 1440x900 is brighter 250 nits versus 200 nits for the 1680x1050
-
tristan i HIGHLY recommend 1680 by 1050, as it's simply gorgeous!
-
That is what i was thinking!! /\ /\ when people say that it make it so hard to choose!!
maybe i could put up with the high rez with resizing and all in internet, but word just scroll the mouse and it zooms in! You make it hard now! -
1680x1050 is definitely difficult to read. I am thinking about exchanging my screen.
-
on a 13.4 notebook, ive got 1280X800 would that be the same as 1440x900 on a 15.4 or is it just higher.
but deffently on the 1280x800 you can see the pixles its horrible! -
I think you should get the 1050 X 1680. use it when you wach movies and so . when you play games change to 900X1400..
as far as the font you can change the system fount to the size you want so this is not a problem. I have it and I love it -
1680 x 1050 doesnt look too small. once the led screen is out, thats what i'm getting.
This post will help you decide.

I think the 1440x900 looks like the same size as what ive got on my 13.4" notebook now!! so I think that 1680x1050 will be fine!
But i have to get the led backlight! for various reasons, but do you think they will bring out the led version on such a hi res screen! if not i will have to get the 1440x900 in led!
just have to wait for led, i think after the trial period "aprox jan-march" with the 1440x900, then the hi res will come out in led after that period hopefully! -
I have 1680x1050 and I have no problems reading text. The screen is absolutely beautiful. The extra real estate is the reason I got it, and the reason I love it.
-
You can get 1080p and more if you go with a 17". And if you install Compiz, you can zoom in when needed.
-
BTW I'm using a 1680x1050 on an external 22" display, and the text size seems just fine. I cant imagine using that resolution on a 15.4"
I'd say go with the 1440x900, even though you can use zoom function in a browser or increase DPI for larger text and icons, it wouldn't look natural (I mean everything would look out of proportion)
Besides, 1680x1050 is not 1080p either, therefore you are not getting anything significant other than simply the next higher step in resolution. -
I have 1680x1050 on my 1520. I find that its a strain on my eyes to see text. I usually keep it set at 1440x900. It was almost a waist of money to get the 1680x1050 on a 15.4...I never have it set to that res! So when I orderes my m1530 I got the 1440x900 screen without any hesitation.
I say DEFINATELY get the 1440x900 -
I recommend 1680x1050, since I prefer the higher resolution and larger space. But, one picture is worth a million words, so here is one for you to decide. It is my desktop on the Vostro 1500 in my signature. You can try to scale it to a 15.4" diagonal size if you have a large enough monitor (anything larger or equal to 15.4 works, preferrably with at least 1680x1050 resolution) to have an idea how the fonts and icons look. Hope this helps

What i have also noticed is that when my 13.4 is next to the dell 15.4, my screen looks yellow and my dads looks white + slightly dimmer to, guess its because the dell is new! And its a dell! lol -

Looks like MacBook Pro only uses there led backlit 1680 x 1050 Resolution screen on there 17" notebook, and 1440 x 900 Resolution on the 15.4, i guess that hi res is to much for a 15.5" NB!
What surprises me is that they use the GT card in there macbooks! but the price is a right rip off $3598.00 4 17" -

Your welcome ! I have not changed the DPI setting but tweaked the theme a little bit for better visibility, mainly window bar and font sizes. You can use the attached theme file below as an example to modify the way you like. Hope this helps as well.
Just save the text below as a text file in your My Documents folder with a name you can choose and .Theme extension. Then you can right click to desktop -> Properties -> Themes and select the filename you have given. And, this is for XP using the Zune theme that you can download from Microsoft.

I've already ordered an M1530 with the 1680x1050 screen and now I'm slightly worried.. I intend to play games on it and I was just wondering how the graphics card (8600m GT 256mb .. I'm not sure if it's DDR2 or 3) will perform. Is there a significant difference in gfx card performance between a 1440x900 screen and a 1680x1050?
-
The screen doesn't matter, what matters is what resolution you play the game at. For most older games, you can set it to high(est) resolution(s), and for modern games, you can set it lower.
The 1530 has GDDR3.
1440x900 or 1680x1050
