I'm thinking of buying an XPS M1530 but I'm hesitating between the 1440x900 reasolution or the standard one, which is 1280x800 as you all probably know.

Would some of you be willing to post some screenshots to see how is the text size, that would be for sure well appreciated and would probably help me to make my choice. Thanks

Yes but the screen would get blurry since it would not run at its native resolution.
    Any screenshots to share ?

Definitely not, that would be a waste of money. 1440x900 on a 15,4 is probably the limit between a nice and a comfortable screen. ;)

The 1440x900 is perfect and def. not too small. you start getting dangerous in that area when you go to x1050 or above

Thanks, that helps a lot ;)

Seems to be a bit too small in my opinion.

I have a 1650x 1080 screen and I love it. 1440X900 is waste for ME.

You really need to go find some 15.4" laptops in a store and make your own decision based on what you see in front of you.

Its really not. I would compare it to the lowest resolution of a 14.1" screen. Oh, and remember you can always raise the text size in your browser, or for all of windows with the dpi settings.

Yeah indeed that's what I am thinking about. But I fear that if I change the text size it will not be in accordance with the size of the resolution, such as the Windows etc...
So I would lose a bit of the beautiful look that a higher resolution brings, I guess.
If someone has time to post a pic with bigger text size, by the way. I've almost made my choice, I think.

I don't think anyone runs the text on these screens at anything but the native resolution. It really looks great in person and im not one to enjoy small texts. (I'm at my pc up to 16 hours of the day)

I'd like to trust you but I read a lot of text on my computer screen and I do not want my eye to get tired too fast but from the pics you gave me, I assume they probably will.
Thanks for the help so far. I appreciate it ;)

I think there is no real good compromise for a 15,4" screen after all. 1280x800 offers a very comfortable resolution for reading text and stuffs like that but it's a bit too "big" or not enough "small"(you choose) to make it look great. A 16" screen would be perfect.

You can tweak the DPI and get it to look perfect. The 1440x900 standard size text was bothering my eyes b/c I was so used to the normal 1200x800(and I'm sure partly b/c of the bad/grainy samsung screen as well) so I messed with the DPI and it's much better for me.

    I think that on a 15.4":
1280x800 is for people who have a hard time seeing and don't need the space
1680x1050 is for people who have great eyes and need a lot of extra space
    1440 x 900 is the perfect balance

In all reality you should go to a store and see them side by side. All the talking and reading in the world won't help you as much as seeing them in person.

If you`re trying to make up you`re mind between screen resolutions the best thing you can do is to go to any electronic store and check out the laptops first hand. IMHO

I would if I could. There is no decent electronic store close to my home, so
I have to make do with what I've got.

Almost no electronics store has 15.4" laptops with resolutions higher than the standard 1280x800, at least not where I live.

I got the 1280x800 and I must tell you that I regreat it big time.. I'd love the extra space and surely the text in the 1440x900 wouldn't be too small.. The screen itself is ok, nice and bright and it has good colors (I think it's an LG so that's probably why), but damn if only I could go back I'd get the 1440x900.. knowing that I'm stuck with this laptop for minimun another year just kills me! lol

And believe me I'm not a small text lover, but I've seen some 1440x900 screens and they are just fine!.. If I were you I'd go for the bigger resolution, and if you just can't stand it then send it back in and change the order, you have 30 days (too bad I didn't, what was I thinking??)
