I also tried the ForceWare 158 drivers and no, they did not install on my 1420 w/ 8400 GS. And I did go through the menu/config page that Nvidia offers to find the correct drivers for your machine. Something is screwed up, not sure what though.

They're the desktop drivers with modded inf's for the mobile parts. First you download, extract, then download the modded info to the extracted directory, then run setup.exe. I have 163.11 on my 1520 8600M GT.

You might want to give them an hour or so becasue NVIDIA just came out with their newest official drivers, 162.22.

Extract what? Unless I'm mistaken, the 158 driver I downloaded from Nvidia was simply an exe. Even the 162.13 driver phobos suggested from laptopvideo2go was an exe.

So these new Nvidia 162.22 drivers won't work on the 1420?

The nvidia released drivers won't work for laptops, but if laptopvideo2go releases a modified version of the driver you should be able to install it.

to dannytai234: so the newer version of the drivers will let you overclock the card?

To install the laptopvide2 go driver, download the executable driver archive, run it to extract, then replace the original nv4_disp.inf file with the modified inf file (also available as a separate download). Afterwards run the setup.exe.

Has anyone here installed and tested the new 162.22 Nvidia driver provided by laptopvideo2go? The users in their forums report a performance hit after installation. Anyone experienced the same? Dannytai reported here a higher 3DMark06 score using these new drivers.

Is it best to uninstall your previous Nvidia drivers before going to the new ones?

Overclocking a video card will of course make your system run hotter. But how does it affect the longevity of the system, by taxing the GPU that much more? And how about the warranty?
