I just bought my 1420 and already want to change some things with it. I have the T2370 in it and have a question. Can I upgrade to the C2D processor or is the socket on the mobo a different type since I have the T2370? Also, can the video card be upgraded to, say a 8400M GT or something better? I do plan on installing a 320GB HDD here in a month when I get back to the states and installing Home Premium 64bit also. Anyways, just some questions I was pondering while I sit out here. Thanks

The CPU can be upgraded to any Socket P C2D, Merom or Penryn. Vista should be no problem.

As for the GPU. You have the best GPU in it which is supported. I don't know if the 1420 uses the same socketed, Dell type of graphical cards as the 1520 and 1720, but even if so, there is nothing better for your notebook.

Thanks for the info guys. I've torn apart and built many a desktops, but never a laptop before. Is it all that hard to replace the processor in one? Also would anyone happen to know where I can find a C2D, say the 2.4GHz one? I understand I should have just ordered it with my laptop, but I didn't have the money at the time. Better late than never I guess though :D Appreciate all the help.

I have a similar question. I'm going to be doing the same thing except upgrading from a t2330 to the t8300. The t8300 should fit my motherboard correct?

The T8300 will work in a 1420. You will probably need the latest BIOS.

The 1420 is probably the easiest laptop to change the processor on I have seen.

Na the studio 15 is the easiest processor to change. All you have to do is unscrew the bottom 7 screws and every part is exposed.
Call dell the 1420 i think can fit with the 8600gt.

The 1420 never shipped with an 8600M GT. Thus, it will not take an 8600M GT. The best thing you can get in the 1420 is the 8400M.
