    Core2 Duo 1.5G
    and
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS

    OR

    Core2 Duo 1.66G
    and
    Integrated Intel x3100 graphics

Considering those are the only two options and price is the same, which one will present better performance?

Well, gaming or not, one of them should be a better performer in all the benchmarks and stuff, no?

No... The one with the 8400GS will be a better performer in the 3D benchmarks, and the one with the faster CPU will be a better performer in the productivity benchmarks (and battery life benchmarks).

Not only are you losing RAM with the integrated, but it will perform nowhere NEAR what a 8400GS can do.

PC mag did benchmarks with a 1.66 discrete graphics version if I'm not mistaken. It didn't do too badly. They mentioned some possible heating issues if clockspeed was upgraded.

It depends on what you want. Gaming performance or general computing performance ?

    1.5GHz +8400GS (Vs 1.6GHz+X3100) Pros:
    • Much better gaming and 3D performance
    Cons:
    • Battery life is considerably lower
    • Will heat up more.
    • Slightly lower (almost negligible) CPU intensive/general computing performance

It all depends on what you want to do with your notebook.
Which do you prioritize more on your notebook?

    1. Gaming (FEAR, WoW, CS:S, Doom3, etc.)
    2. Productivity (Word, Spreadsheet, Photoshop, Video Processing)

Also, you might want to note the pros and cons of both:

    Core2 Duo 1.5GHz / 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS
    • Gaming Compatible
    • 3D Rendering Power
    • Hotter Notebook
    Core2 Duo 1.66GHz / Intel x3100 Integrated graphics
    • Slighly better Processor Performance
    • Significantly better battery life
    • Cooler Notebook

Consider these points and then place your decision.
And as a further note, there is not a distinct significant difference between performance of the Core 2 Duo 1.5ghz and the Core 2 Duo 1.66ghz, so processor differences are pretty much negligible.

In truth, it boils down to your GPU Needs.
    Weigh your options and decide.

Edit: PhoenixFx already has them listed. Sorry for the redundancy post.

Significantly better? I heard the battery life on the 1420 with the 8400m GS is about 5 hours if not gaming. Obviously if gaming it lowers that to maybe 2-3 hours.

I don't think it's significantly better - maybe 30 minutes when not gaming?

On XPS M1210, difference between the dedicated Go 7400 and GMA950 is slightly over 1 hour for the standard 6 cell and even more with the extended battery. So I guess it'll be more than 30 mins.
