    1420 users, does the GPU increase noise and battery life?

    I'm just wondering this because currently dell doesn't give you the option for the best value 1420 to despec it without the gpu...

    I will not be gaming on the system either.

    Yeap, the 8400GS will, without a doubt, add heat and reduce battery life. If you are not going to game, I would seriously try and get it with the onboard x3100.

    I wouldn't worry though, I have a 8400M GS on my 1420 and I can get 6 hours of battery.

    I wonder if i ring the dell reps if they will enable me to configure it without one

    And i meant to say increase heat, decrease battery life, but you got the idea :)

    Is your screen the high resolution model? I was thinking of configuring that to avoid the 'grain' issues.

    The most I've noticed is a very gentle low hum which can't be heard unless you're in complete silence or put your ear right up to the fan.
