    Hi there

I have an inspiron 1420, the system runs pretty well, however, i am about to turn crazy because of the touchpad...

the thing is that the touchpad, at times, "shuts off" itself completely, like if there was no response whatsoever. this only happenos for a few seconds (like 5), but it is VERY annoying, and it happens all day long. It can happen as much as i dont know, 3 or 4 times every 20 minutes.

When this doesn't happen the touchpad curiously works ok.

However, during these "shut downs" sometimes there is a bit of respones but the touchpad acts like crap, sending you all over the screen. It is as if it were turning on and off constantly.

I am using the latest touchpad drivers for 1420 as showed in the dell site. The touchpad is by Alps.

Any ideas? other drivers to try out ?

This is my replacement system, and the orignal one ALSO had this issue so i am starting to think that it has to be something with configuration or drivers.... could there really be two defective touchpads coming in a row?

    thanks for everything!!

Don't know but... it might be the sensitivity. Go to Control Panel > Hardware > Mouse > Touchpad and adjust the sensitivity toward "light touch".

You could try other settings in there too... like if there's a thing to ignore accidental touches, dial that back a bit.

Whats the touchpad driver you are using...? My touchpad in 1420 was behaving pretty bad until I installed Alps driver.

I've had my 1420 for a few weeks and notice the touchpad is unresponsive at times to taps. I've tried playing with all the settings. Right now for my problem "TouchCheck" seems to be the culprit. I have it on minimum and it seems better.

Change the touch sensitivity. Mine use to have the same behavior as yours.
