    I am sooo upset....

Placed my order on 7/12 for a spring green 1420 and received a estimated shipping date of 8/15. I'm leaving on Sunday 8/19 for a 3 week business trip and desperately needed a new machine. Frantic I wouldn't receive it on time, I called Dell to cancel.

Dell call center (in India) reassured me everything would be fine and the laptop would likely ship out on time and likely sooner. They upgraded my shipping to next day to be certain. Several times I called back to confirm on-time shipment and each time I was reassured. I also asked if there was any specific part causing the backorder that I could change -- "No, everything will be fine!" they said.

So what happens? It's 8/15 and I get a call TODAY the machine will not ship until 8/28 -- and the backorder is because of the SPRING GREEN!! They couldn't tell me this before?

I am LIVID. The color is the least important part of the machine and I would have certainly changed my order had I known. And the fact that I asked if anything particular was holding up the order and (India) Dell said no.

So now I am days away from an important 3 week business trip with no new machine, and instead stuck with an antiquated laptop unable to handle the workload while traveling. All of this could have been avoided if Dell would have been honest with me and recommended I cancel and get another laptop.

Today I finally spoke to someone at Dell USA, not India. He said he would have recommended I canceled along time ago and got another machine. Wow, I could have used his honesty a while back -- it would have saved me a lot of heartache. It seems like Dell India is not on the same page as Dell USA.

So I kept my laptop on order for when I return next month. I wanted to cancel out of principal but am fearful of being backorder for another couple months on a second machine. I like the Sonys but the screen resolution isn't high enough, so other than Dell, I'd have to jump to Mac -- seeming like a good option at this point!!

    So in summary...
Spring green -- not worth waiting 2 months for
Dell customer service -- still the WORST in the industry

    Sadly,
    Heather

A July 12th order is certainly planning ahead, that's awful you're in this situation now. If you go through Dell Business usually you'll get support based in the U.S. a little faster than through Dell Home, which is one advantage of going through Biz. All the same, it would be nice if Dell were more realistic and up front with both "Home" and "Business" shoppers. There is crossover of course.

same thing happened to me. i ordered on 7/16 with a scheduled shipping date of 8/06. 8/06 came and i received a call sayin that it wont shipp till 8/16 cause of the color, blue. I was so upset with dell but on 8/10 was sent an email saying that it was going to be shipped out that same day, i recevied it yesterday. So who knows yours might shipp out before then.
