does the headphone jack cause noise issues like the 1520's headphone jack?

yes or no..please no "stop making these noise topics" ect... because I NEED A LAPTOP, and if the 1420 has no noise, ill just have to settle for it...

    thank you.

sigh..why cant they just get it right with the 1520?

since dells are bulkier, wouldnt a 14 inch be ideal for college anyway?

The 14 would be a much better choice. The 15 is heavier then your average 15" notebook. But the 14 only has the 8400m gs option. The 8600 option on the 15 is why many opt for that. As far as the noise, the 15 has the jacks on the side.. near the processor I believe. The 14 has the jacks up front. So I am thinking the location is key for the reason the 1520 picks up interference. Bascially a bad MOBO design.

Many people did not like the 1420's jacks in the front. But that may be the saving issue why it does not suffer from sound issues. I love my 1420 and think the 14 is a great size.. not too tiny or bulky. I think 14 inch screens are getting popular now. But I think the 1520 is the biggest seller. Or maybe just because it seems so since there are more threads on the 1520 here. I think partly since it has more issues as well which makes people post more. If people are not having issues with their 1420's then they probably less apt to post.

I get a little hard drive noise when nothing is playing on mine, but not a constant buzzing or interference.

One question. Is it possible to change the order by phone if I have made it online?

(to change the OS for example)

You *may* be able to change minor things, but usually they have to cancel and reorder.

Make sure you go through the modify department.. Not a sales agent. The modify department may be able to change your OS and still keep all your discounts/coupons that you may have applied. But doing so may delay your system since you may be sent to the back of the line. But then again, there are cases when peoples orders seem to be expedited faster when they cancel/reorder. I would go and make all your changes while you can. Get the system you want so you don't regret it later.
