does the 1420 have that same headphone ruckus? if it does, i'm wondering if the dedicated sound card (express) fixes it. meaning, the peeps who ordered their 1420/1520 with the express card don't have the creepy sound?

if this does fix it, why don't people stop griping and just buy the dumb card? of course they should try to make dell send it free first since its their fault for making a f'd up laptop, but still . . . if it's a fix, then that is good.

    thanks

if your laptop comes with a bad LCD, are you gonna "stop griping and just buy" an external monitor?

    not a good comparison.

    a) express card is $75 or cheaper and i said dell should be offering these for free
    b) i ordered the anti glare so i don't have to worry about graininess

Either way, I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Grainy screens are obviously a challenge for both the 1520 and 1420 series. But I haven't heard as much about the headphone jack on the 1420. Could it be because both jacks are located in the front and away from the HD, mobo, proc? Anybody with a 1420 able to confirm the noise/lack thereof issue?

I could only get Dell to send me a 25 dollar coupon for the card. Even then, that was after 2 hours of online chat, and a call to the sales dept. The rep I spoke to couldn't find the card, so he only settled for a 25 dollar coupon (according to him, the card was 40 bucks, but the site says between 60 and 75 dollars)
