I'm considering the WXGA+ basically to avoid the graininess issues that plague the screens apparently. But i'm concerned the WXGA+ will be unsuited for web viewing and text, which is basically the sole use of the laptop.

    Opinions? :)

From what I've read (mind you, I'm still waiting for my Vostro 1400 - In preproduction since 01.09) you have 3 options on Dells 14.1" WXGA+ screens:
AUO - quite grainy but quite bright and vivid
SEC - not that grainy but horrible viewing angles and quite dimm
LPG (or was it LPL....dunno...LG Phillips^^) - best of the bunch

But dont get your hopes up...Its a matter of luck. :-(

EDIT: Oops, I got a little off topic ^^ I've seen a WXGA+ 14.1" display and I found it to be quite suitable for text viewing / web surfing / generic office work... And I dont have 20/20 vision :D

So the grainyness is still a issue on the WXGA+ screens too?

I was under the impression it only affected the lower end screens.

I have an SEC WXGA+ on my 1420, and although there is no graininess, there is a problem with impure (yellowish) whites and a fair amount of light leakage. As far as the actual resolution is concerned, I find it to be perfect for this 14" display.
