Is the high-res 1440 LCD screen for the 1420 one of the ones that is having problems?

yes. yes. yes. i had to write yes three times cause of the 10 word minimum.

but I think the # of screens having issues is decreasing b/c somehow Dell's fixing them... it was just the first few waves of people that had problems.

edit: well, people now are still having problems, just less.

No problems with the WXGA 1280x800 screens, just the 1440x900 ones?

In all honesty, why would you want the 1440x900 screen on the 1420? I want to be able to READ it...

Once you change the DPI it is not a problem.

    I have the 1420, 1440x900, I think it's very good.

Just do a search, there are quite a few threads about this.

Its all personal preference, I personally like high res screens and standard DPI, and I have horrible eyesight, 1) if your used to large low res displays, small high res displays are going to take a lot of getting used to, 2) the extra real estate of higher resolutions is invaluable to me, I dont do one window maxed very often, I have several open and running all the time 3) whenever possible, spend some time with a screen your unfamiliar with before you purchase it, more than just a quick look at a big box store if you can swing it, like a new haircut, a dramatically different screen than your used to can take time to get comfortable with.
