What problems do you have with your 1420??

If you chose "other problem(s)", please specify what the problem was in your post. Thanks.

Mine has that whiney noise coming out of the headphone ports. If I use the Mic input as a Line-out, set as rear speakers, the whine is a lot less audible.

This results in no proper headphone level amplification though (read: close to no bass), so OK for anything but music. (Haven't contacted Dell about this yet).

While I don't think it is a problem with my particular notebook, the CPU fan is pretty much always on, even if the core temp is below 40 degrees. I fail to see why it's necessary to start the fan at such a low temp. (Contacted Dell, waiting for reply.)

I had a problem with the VGA video output giving some weird repeated inverse output when going to LCD monitors. Like if you had a black bar of one pixel wide (e.g. a | character) there'd be another repeated brighter bar a few pixels over to the right. I fixed this by using a custom timing in the Nvidia control panel to use reduced blanking (which apparently increases the bandwidth available for the signal or something?). (Contacted Dell, they wanted to replace the motherboard. I told them not to bother as I'd 'fixed' it myself by that stage.)

    But overall, relatively happy :).

My fan only comes on when the laptop's hot. It can go for long periods without coming on at all.
