Does anyone have the regular 1280x800 screen that is a SEC or LG? I heard regular screens are only AUO... I hope not.

    For a 1420 that is.

I deffinitely received a SEC 1280x800 as one of my replacements. I sent it back because it was a mistake and I ordered a 1440x900. I shouldve kept it as its the only screen that wasnt defective. Great viewing angles, brighter than my sec4457 and no vertical banding, no grain etc. I just wanted a higher resolution.

Isn't the 1440x800 too small to read texts? I heard it was on a 14" screen.

Depends on the person as far as readability goes.

I don't have any issues with my WXGA+ screen.

I have an SEC screen and have no problems with it - other than the viewing angles. But in reality THEY AREN"T BAD

I don't have any issues with grainyness...

I'm wondering if Dell got the hint....

Turn off the lights in your house, like youre about to watch a movie. Then turn your laptop to the right, as if your significant other was on your right hand side watching a movie with you and you split the laptop. On the letter box, or a black screen and from the left hand side you can see vertical bands, usually two. Ive had this with 3 sec4457's Ive replaced. It's there. But I dont want to be bursting bubbles, it beats the hell out of the grain. Just goes to show Dell must have saved hundreds of thousands/millions of dollars by buying Lots of grade B/messed up LCD's hoping people wouldn't notice. Im sure Samsung and AUO QC officials noticed the flaws and sold them to Dell for much cheaper.

On a positive note, my vostro 1400 does kick ass. The design is great to access both ram slots, cpu, hard drive etc. Its solid built and cool running. It's far better looking than the HP and very high end looking with the blue leds on the black chassis. Also, Dell customer service has been great to me. I havent been on hold for long amounts of time and they're really nice.

Im awaiting another replacement screen to come in; yet another attempt to get a defect free screen. My complaint against Dell is that they will only send me refurbished lcds, perhaps the reason why I've replaced them 5+ times. These refurbished replacement monitors are returned usually for a reason. But, when I spoke with the rep the first time, I clearly asked him if it was ok if I just kept replacing the screen until I got a non defective one. so, the journey goes on.

Just a couple other people that noticed this issue with the 4457's.

That's rediculous... I don't even know if I should buy from Dell. I don't want to be going through all this bs with 1420 audio skipping/ lcd grain and w/e else is wrong with the 1420.

Well, thinking about everything I went through at this moment, I would probably take the t61p from Lenovo...maybe. I didnt take it at first because I figured if they cant design a centered screen of all things, the company must be lame. Im rather biased to my 1400 at the moment though...
