1420 High Resolution Screen

Can anyone tell me the differences between the normal 14.1 inch screen (1024x800) and the high resolution one (1440x900)?

And if anyone has any screenshots of the two, that'd be great.

 

I think you mean 1280x800 with the first one....the only real difference are that the higher resolution one is a bit sharper as it has more pixels but things will also seem smaller on the higher resolution

 

you will get about the width of the sidebar extra and about an inch extra on the bottom.

I prefer the higher res screen because you get more real estate and things look better and sharper than a low resolution.

 

i had have both resolutions but in the 15.4" variant, and i can say its a huge boost in what you can put on the screen at any given time. i wouldnt ever get a wxga again.

 

its not huge boost at all, its only 26% difference

1280x800 has 1.024.000 pixels

and

1440x900 has 1.296.00 pixels

1.296.000 / 1.024.000 = 1.26

also there are 2 times more the chance to get a grainy 1440x900 than a grainy 1280x800

 

Should I be worried then, or personally ask Dell to assure that I do not get a grainy screen somehow?

Dell's customer services department can't tell production's deparment what kind of screen (LG-Phillips or AUO or SEC or Sharp.etc) to put in each ordered lappy

if it was the case than Dell would run out of LG screens and all the production would be on hold for a very long time

 

Well...f**k Dell if I get a grainy screen then...

 

its not a big deal really, especially if you choose 1 year in home warranty or 1 year free mail-in warranty (second one i think is even better if you have another machine that you can use when you'll shipping them a lappy with a grainy screen or any other problem and waiting on a replacement)

All you do is just use and abuse their machines and they keep sending youu one by one by one untill the one that won't be grainy or the one you would fall in love with. And I think that's your warranty starts only on the 1st day of the lappy that you deside to keep.

So basically you get a free warranty untill you get a lappy with a non-grainy LC screen lol

That's a great news that they have 1/3 of their machines with grainy screens, because it lets you ring their Call Department and complain, they ask you not to cancell relationship with the company and ask you if they could send you a replacement plus they might give your something extra, like a free gift card or a discount or a free upgrade.

If I get a grainy screen I'll tell them to send me a replacement with a free upgrade to a 1440x900 and if they didn't do it I'll just cancel the order and get a full refund, if they do it and its going to be grainy again than I'll phone them again and raise hell and get a free upgrade to the most espensive screen they got, lol

 

With the $500 off coupon. No reason NOT to get the hi res screen.

 

I guess you're right. But I really want this laptop to be one I can keep without having to return. Heck, I've already gotten a free messenger bag from them.
Hopefully my screen will be an LG, or something good...

 

everybody is differend. and there are always a lot of reasons for everything

why to pay for it if machine might come with a grainy screen. but for some its good option to upgrade screen themself and let the company give you a free upgrade on something else.

i choose to spend my money on something of a great quality and let Dell use their money to do what they have to do to keep me as their's life long customer

 

hopefully my screen's going to be so crappy that i wouldn't be able to see desktop icons. lol

especially if the prices of machines will go south even more by after Thanksgiving and around Xmas

 

Well, if the screen is grainy, and it's obvious, I probably will return it and ask for an upgrade or something.
And like you, I expect my hard-earned money to reap not just a good, but a great product.

 

and I like everything to be done right from the first time.

So if its not right and because they waste my time (time is money) they have to pay for my time somehow
